I am going just a little off course today, I was going to write about "How spirits help us" and I plan on posting that later this week, but today I want to write about a cemetery and in particular the gravesite of the Smiley family.  One of my viewers wrote and told me about this place last year and it has become one of my most poplar stories with the most comments. Until this past weekend I had not been there myself.

When I first drove up, I thought it was a very pretty, little area, but I had never been to a place that the road runs between TWO different cemeteries side by side before.  But this one does!  On one side, is the supposedly the haunted Mills Cemetery and just to the other side is the Garland Cemetery.  I thought this was a bit odd but....you know....whatever. :)

I went there all alone and now I am really glad I did.(As you will see).  I pulled down into the cemetery and parked the car.  I can tell you from the moment I opened the door and stepped out of the car, I felt a peaceful feeling come over me, which I DIDN'T expect...... because THIS is suppose to be a really ACTIVE HAUNTED cemetery.  I can remember thinking to myself....well this isn't SCARY......it's really nice.



  

As I got out my equipment, I began walking across the cemetery and found the Smiley site fairly easy.  Now, let me tell you what I have heard about the Smiley family.  One story is...... that Mr. Smiley went crazy and killed his entire family then himself and now he wonders the cemetery at night looking for his next victim.  Another story is that if you lay down on the ground in front of the headstone on Halloween you won't be able to get up or you will feel Mr. Smiley grabbing you trying to pull you down.  And then there is the story.....that back on May 9, 1927 the Smiley family came to their untimely death when a tornado tore through Garland which was devastating and is now referred to as the great "Garland Cyclone".  Seventeen people were dead and five of them from the same family......The Smiley's.

                                                                    

So I sat my recorder and flashlight on top of the tombstone and sat down in front of the Smiley's with my Dr. Pepper in hand and began just talking to the family.  I had EXCELLENT flashlight communication and not anything I think  is really to impressive on EVP's but I am going to go over my data again and will let you know if I find something else.  Here is a brief clip of my flashlight session with THE GIRLS(daughters).  Now, I don't want to hear ONE comment on the singing..... It was just me and the girls at this point....I wanted to do something with JUST them because I feel maybe lots of questions are directed to Mr. and Mrs. Smiley.  I did ask Mr. Smiley if it "upset him" about the things written about him and I even read him three articles written on his family.  The response was very clearly a "YES" it upset him about the bad things he had supposedly done.  I also found out Mrs. Smiley is VERY close to her daughters and loves to cook. :)

Now, I have ALWAYS been honest with my readers and I try to tell it "like it is" or at least the way I see it........so I am going to do that again.  Guys....and gals.....lol.....we ALL want to have a great paranormal experience BUT in the process we have to get the FACTS right!!!  I feel compelled to say this (especially after my session with MR. SMILEY).....people by no fault of their own....easily repeat what they hear......such as......that ol' house on the hill is sooooo haunted because you can see lights in it at night....when the REAL story is YES you do see lights in the house at night because a family bought the house and are doing repairs at night and don't have the electricity turned on yet.....or........don't go there because the BIG EVIL GHOST will get you!!!!  Anyway....you get my point.  Here are the FACTS on the Smiley family as I know them.  The Father, Mother and three daughters did die in a tornado on May 9, 1927 while they slept in the early morning hours around 3am.  One daughter did survive.  That's it folks.  That's the story.  So, I am putting myself in the families shoes.  I wouldn't like people going around saying that a relative of mine MURDERED his family and then KILLED himself when the painful true is soooo different.  So, lets be respectful of that. A good Ghost Hunter reports his/her finding based on facts NOT Legends.   IF Mr. Smiley wonders the cemetery at night......it is my guess it's NOT because he is looking for his next victim.......it is because it's a WONDERFUL place to take a night stroll and enjoy the fresh air. :) That's MY TWO CENTS :)

IF YOU UPSET A GHOST....BEWARE!!!

Ok.  I talked last week about Not being afraid of ghosts, BUT there are certain situations where I feel you need to have concern and a lot of it!  It is rare that you hear about people being "attacked" by ghosts but it DOES happen. As per my guest "J Lilly" who has experienced first hand!

Now, I am NOT going to spend a lot of time on this subject because here's what I think about this.....If you provoke a spirit or talk disrespectful to one.....you may GET more than you bargained for!!!  I don't want people talking to my loved ones disrespectful or rude in ANY WAY so WHY would I do that to someone else?????  I am not a believer in provoking spirits JUST so you can get some sort of response from them.  That is NOT my style of investigating!  And yes, I know several groups out there use this technique and especially on the Paranormal TV shows.  And you know......to each there own.  That is why we are all different.  I ALWAYS try to keep in mind that when I am doing an investigation the people I am trying to communicate with were ONCE living just like you and I........ and I wouldn't TALK to someone disrespectful now........ so WHY would I when they are dead?????

If this were a scientific experiment I feel the results would be labeled inconclusive. I for one approach every investigation with a healthy medium of skepticism, and am always eager to experience phenomena. Now that does not mean I try to be the entity's BFF (Best Friend Forever) but I do show empathy and respect, as I hope I do with any human being.

Provoking the entity into attacking the investigator, or at the least causing a raucous producing good footage for the camera recorder, or perhaps a good EVP is to say the least "dangerous" and in my books....to be frank.....just plain stupid.   However, one must weigh the options when one chooses this route, and while it may seem anecdotal that this produces results, it may not to the contrary.  Now, can a spirit hurt you WITHOUT being provoked?  The truth........YES.......but you can limit your chances for this kind of action if you do your RESEARCH and understand what you are up against BEFORE ever going into a location. Again, don't forget your protection prayer.

In folklore and paranormal studies, a poltergeist phenomenon alludes to the apparent yet unexplained manifestation of multiple force reactions caused by a seemingly invisible entity. Most accounts of poltergeist manifestations involve such force being triggered at objects, usually household (destruction and relocation of furniture, levitation of cutlery, knocking on the doors), although some seem to describe accompanying hallucinations, as well as physical attacks on human witnesses. Such actions can include pinching, biting, hitting and tripping the victim, or producing sentient noises (moaning, laughing, talking etc.) without clear source.


Final thought......(sorry, that sounded like Jerry Springer didn't it???LOL) Being a ghost hunter is exciting......and more likely than not...... you MAY get the answer your looking for,  but then the ANSWER suddenly becomes another QUESTION.....and you know what I'm talking about if you hunt ghosts........so while you guys are out there doing "your thing" be careful and respect the location and it's occupants.  Be cautious, and remember that ol' saying "you can get more flies with HONEY instead of VINEGAR.

SHOULD YOU BE AFRAID OF GHOSTS???

Well, lets see......they float around at night...........they make SPOOKY loud sounds........they can throw and break things........they can touch you......oh and let's not forget the biggie.................THEIR DEAD!!!!!!  Nope...........nothing to be afraid of here!!!!!

The number ONE question I get asked most often is "aren't you afraid of ghosts?"  My answer is no.  That doesn't mean that I don't get scared from time to time, but afraid of the GHOSTS themselves......no not really.   The fact that ghost hunters are drawn to a haunted location is likely to suggest that they are not afraid in the first place.  People react to fear in different ways.....I have had people stop ghost hunting because the fear itself has overcome THE QUEST to find out what is going on in a location.  There has been many times where ghost hunters have screamed, wept or have run in fear from a location because they are just to afraid!  It's easy for us to rationalize everything and say that "ghosts can't hurt us" or that "there's nothing to be afraid of" but sometimes the energy of the location may affect us in a way that we could not have imagined.  The ability to master one's own fear is the mark of an experienced investigator.  However, sometimes it is totally appropriate........and even necessary......to get out!!!

Paranormal activity can range from harmless residual haunting to potentially harmful poltergeists and malevolent entities.  You have to be prepared  for both.  Protecting ones self is just one of the things that you should do if you are going to investigate the paranormal or the unknown.  Some prepare by saying a simple protection prayer before and after an investigation.  I, for one, am a STRONG believer in the protection prayer.  A protection prayer is simply a prayer asking for protection from anything that might harm them during the hunt and from entities that might become attached to them and decide to follow them home.  Ghost hunting is know different from anything thing else.....athletes put on protective uniforms with pads..........we buckle our seat belts when we are in the car......we wear helmets when we ride bikes........all these things PROTECT US!!!

So, should you be afraid of ghosts???  Let me put it this way.....there is always an element of fear, whether it's fear of the unknown, fear of what is not seen, fear that something may hurt us......or fear of ghosts.....we should look at it each situation with caution and know OUR own limits and also be smart enough to know when you need to call for help or get someone with more experience in a particular field, to assist you.  Bottom line for me........YES in certain situations ghosts can hurt you and you should be afraid BUT these situations are very rare.  For me, I know that there are RISK..... and things to be afraid of everyday........ just like when I drive to work.........so..........how do I handle it...........I DRIVE to work........WITH MY SEAT BELT ON!!!!  :))))  Happy hunting everyone!!!!

LORRAINE WARREN-THE AMITYVILLE HORROR IS REAL AND SHE WILL NEVER GO BACK!!!

 

I just wanted to share with you guys a story that I read on yahoo today.  I thought is was interesting.  Man!!! I love ghost stories!!!  And I have watched this sweet old lady on many paranormal shows.....and I just want to hug her. :)

Lorraine Warren doesn't have to go to the movies to see ghost stories—she lives them.

Alongside her late husband, demonologist Ed Warren, the clairvoyant investigated some of the most famous and infamous paranormal hauntings around. Her most notable cases have inspired plenty of frightening flicks, including 1979's "The Amityville Horror" (as well as the 2005 remake) and next week's scream-inducer, "The Conjuring."

At "The Conjuring" press junket in San Francisco, Yahoo! Movies recently had the chance to speak with Lorraine Warren, now 86. We asked Warren how the 1971 case of the Perron family in Harrisville, Rhode Island, which inspired "The Conjuring," compares with the horror that the Lutz family experienced in Amityville, New York back in the mid '70s.

Warren laughed, as if there is no comparison at all.

"Amityville was horrible, honey. It was absolutely horrible," she said. "It followed us right straight across the country. I don't even like to talk about it. I will never go in the Amityville house ever again. You don't know how long my career is; that's the only one."

Warren's career is indeed long, as she and her husband founded the New England Society for Psychic Research in 1952, and have over 4,000 cases in their files. So when Warren says that the Amityville house is the one haunted house she won't return to, it's apparent that something terrifying went down there.

That something horrific did occur at the house is not in dispute. On November 13, 1974, 23-year-old Ronald DeFeo Jr. murdered his parents, two brothers, and two sisters. But that's not what inspired the film and its subsequent sequels.

About a year later, George and Kathy Lutz moved into the house at 112 Ocean Avenue with Kathy's three children. Not surprisingly, the Lutzes got a great deal on the house, which was ironically called High Hopes.

But according to the Lutzes, after they moved in evil forces started rearranging the furniture (much of which was left over from the DeFeos), strange welts showed up on Kathy's body after she was levitated two feet in the air, a demonic face peered out of the fireplace, flies swarmed in the middle of winter, unexplained smells of excrement festered, green slime oozed off the walls and more. A dirty laundry list of paranormal terrorizing went down, enough so that the Lutzes finally evacuated High Hopes after only 28 days.

The Warrens were among the few investigators to look into the case. And while many claim the whole story is a hoax, it's obvious in talking to Lorraine Warren that she remains a firm believer.

Of course, movies based on actual events don't necessarily stay true to those events, especially in the horror genre, but if the Lutzes' case is scarier than the haunting depicted in "The Conjuring," then it's no wonder that Warren remains affected.

In "The Conjuring," directed by James Wan ("Saw," "Insidious"), Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga play Ed and Lorraine Warren, who set up an investigation in the Perrons' isolated farmhouse to find definitive proof of the inexplicable and frightening events that are endangering the Perron family. Unfortunately for everyone involved, they find that proof.

"You need proof. That's what you have to have. You can't tell ghost stories," Lorraine Warren told us.

WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BE A GHOST HUNTER???? YOU NEED MORE THAN JUST A LOT OF BATTERIES.......

Whether you are a believer or a skeptic, ghost hunting can be a totally fascinating experience that blends aspects of spiritualism, adventure, and science......not to mention BONE CHILLING experiences....And if you have ever asked yourself, "Does the soul continue after life" well....then you are in company.

A ghost hunter or paranormal investigator (that sounds much more professional....lol) seeks to collect data concerning paranormal activity including research, documents, evidence and the need to sit all night in a haunted location just waiting.........and waiting..........and waiting.......and waiting........

So, I know most people think to be a ghost hunter you have to be BRAVE.  Are you kidding me???  You have to be a lot of things but BRAVE is NOT one of them!!!  We get the pants scared off of us every now and then just like anyone else but the difference between someone that has been in this field for a while and someone who hasn't is that WHEN we get scared we usually don't run away we run to.........we have a STRONG desire to know WHY we are scared and WHAT scared us....

 But on a more serious side, I think first you need to be objective, have patience,  some courage, strength, and TOTAL HONESTY!!!!!  And lets not forget one of the most importance traits.......A PASSION for the unknown!!!!!  Being a ghost hunter and the NEED for answers to "what happens to you when you die and how to communicate with the dead" is what we are all looking for.  The DRIVING force behind MY PASSION for the paranormal is again, after losing my grandfather when I was young I was consumed every minute of the day with the thought "I CAN'T let him go" so there has got to be a way to communicate with him STILL!!!  And from the first book I ever picked up and read on the paranormal I have felt that this is what I was meant to do......research the paranormal.  IT is the reason my grandfather left me so soon......so I could pursue my true passion in life and stay connected to him.  I know it sounds crazy but I know THIS is what HE wants me to do and until my dying day I will continue to do this crazy thing we call ghost hunting because it is MY way of HONORING my grandfather and staying connected with him.  OK.....way to serious.....back to what it takes to be a ghost hunter.

So....do you have what it take to be a ghost hunter?  No....no....I'm NOT talking about a flashlight...camera.....and TONS of batteries....You have to have the ability to suspend your judgment long enough to gauge all of the facts objectively.  A healthy skepticism plays an important part in science, and stimulates research and critical thinking.  Healthy skeptics are open-minded and interested in the evidence and facts.  Also, you have to be prepared to be judged by your colleges and friends as a "crazy person who sits in the dark and talks to dead people".  Don't take this personal.....some people believe in BIG FOOT but not GHOSTS.......and some people that believe in GHOSTS and not BIG FOOT.  And that's ok....we just have to respect each others beliefs.  I can't tell you how many people have told me they don't believe in ghosts....no matter how good the photo, no matter how good the EVP or how much evidence I show them, they STILL say I don't believe in ghosts.  I don't take it personal and think like ...... "I failed at my job if I DIDN'T convince someone to believe in ghosts and they DO exist."  I look at it like......."your loss not mine"...........no NOT REALLY.....I'm just kidding......that's tacky........I NEVER set out to convince someone to BELIEVE in the paranormal, I just hope that by what I have presented to them opens their mind to the POSSIBILITY that there may be more out there than we know.........and I always say..."I think we all go to heaven.......but it just takes SOME OF US a little longer to get there." :)

One last thing......This is NOT a game or fun party activity.  You HAVE to take it seriously and it has to be approached with respect and caution.  You, as the person brought into the situation to resolve scary issues and answer difficult questions, MUST be an absolute rock of stability and confidence.  This field is as uncertain as an earthquake.........it doesn't happen the same time....... every day in the same way so this makes OUR research impossible to be accepted as "Scientifically PROVEN" because  it can't be repeated the same time, the same way over and over and thats what you have to do to prove it scientifically......so this makes us "ground breakers" and "leaders" so lets do it with respect and of course......

LUKE AND BECKY AND ......WHAT?????

So, another great photo from the AGS Conference in Decatur.  This is Luke Naliborski.  Yes, that is his REAL name.  LOL  I have known Luke for years and part of the Troy Taylor team that puts on the conference.  Luke has been co-writer of a couple of paranormal books with Troy and others but now FINALLY he has written his own about his own experiences.

So I was talking to Luke about his book because I am also writing a book and hope someday to have it published as well.  So, you guys better buy one!!!  Oh sorry....off subject....ok.....back..... so anyway, I told Luke I would buy his book but he had to sign it and get his picture taken with me holding his book.  He was sitting behind a table so he said ok but let's get away from everyone, so we stepped over to the side, where no one was and Luke had one of his friends take our picture.

Well.....as you can see......a VERY STRANGE thing showed up in our picture.  I thought it was an Orb in motion but one of Luke's friends said it looked more like a ROD.  Again, as I previously wrote about, this was a term I was unfamiliar with.

Rods are like orbs except for their shape. Also, rods seem to leave a tail of light behind them as they streak across the film area. Believers say that a rod is an intense amount of energy a type of strange bug we can´t see with our eyes or even beings of another dimension, also known as ultra-terrestrials. Many believe that a rod is proof of the existence of the paranormal because rods seem to leave a trail of light behind them and they seem to travel at very fast speeds. Rods are also captured mostly on moving film and camcorders. Rods are also known as energy rods, light rods and swimmers.

Whatever it is....I LOVE IT!!!!!  The stranger.... the BETTER for me!!!!!

THE HAUNTED LINCOLN THEATER-YOU WON'T BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED!!!

Below are photo's that I took during this year's American Ghost Society Conference in Decatur, Illinois and again this year IT did NOT disappoint!!!   The photo's below are inside the Haunted Lincoln Theater around 12:00am.  The photo's are of a staircase that reportedly is haunted by a spirit named Red.  He was a stagehand that fell asleep at the top of the stairs, and fell to his death!  You can read about the tragic history of this Theater at http://haunteddecatur.com/lincoln.html

 

 

At the top of the stairs, many people have reported feeling scared....and heard loud voices.  Possibly actors who had preformed at the theater....... maybe talking with Red???  Who knows.  But I can tell you that I watched a couple go up the stairs and RUN back down just freaking out that they heard voices right by them!!!!!!!!!

 

Below are the photo's I took of them RUNNING back down the stairs screaming!  The girl was in front coming down as fast as she could and she was physically shaking!  She just kept screaming "SOMEONE IS UP THERE.......SOMEONE IS UP THERE............"!!!!!! And the guy was RIGHT behind her carrying a flashlight.  So I just started snapping pictures of them.  The pictures came out pretty blurry because of how fast they were coming back down the stairs.

 

Well, none of that is really that out of the ordinary.....right?  When someone is scared...... they run. But that ISN'T what I found strange!!!!!  Check out the pictures at the bottom.  Photos 1-5 are just pictures of the staircase but there is an Orb in pic 4 that is in the exact spot that something VERY STRANGE was caught on camera.  Also, the other photos 1-5 have a bright Orb at the top of the stairs where Red was to have fallen asleep and fell off.

 

OK.....now I want you to take a GOOD look at photo 6.  This is the original photo of the couple running back down the stairs in fear.  As I was going over the photo's, and I came to this one, and INSTANTLY thought..........WAIT!!!!!!...........What the heck???????????  I was standing there watching these TWO people come down the stairs.......but yet.....there are THREE people in this photo????  Who WAS the third person?????  I can assure you there were only TWO on those stairs at the time.  You can see what I saw in pic 7.  I was sooooo excited about capturing this figure on camera I couldn't wait to show it to Luke and Adam, two guys who have been in this field for many years and have been involved with Troy Taylor from the very beginning of the AGS conference and I would consider them PROFESSIONALS.  They where VERY impressed and wanted me to send them the photo to analysis it further. 

 

Now, as if the photo isn't enough, when you add HEAT IMAGING you can clearly see....there are three area's detected.  Or two people and an unknown spirit.......

 

Luke said that the photo was really interesting because it was as if someone was standing BEHIND the stairs because you can see the stairs visibly in front of the figure.   To me......it looks like a sailor uniform.......and one of the main performers at the Lincoln was Bob Hope who did a skit in a sailor suit.  Luke seems to see a man in a shirt with a tie, and in slacks.  What do you see???  Whether a sailor or a man in a shirt and tie, you can't deny that something or someone was on those stairs.

 

This was an awesome time and I can't wait to go back next year!!!  I'll be posting more from the conference......just as exciting as this!!!!!  Stay tuned.....

CAN GHOSTS REALLY TOUCH YOU??? YOU TELL ME....

This is a video of my daughter who didn't believe dowsing rods could really be a way to  communicate with spirits. MAN DID I PROVE HER WRONG!!!!  This is early morning in Port Isabel, Texas at the Haunted Port Isabel Lighthouse.  The lighthouse is rumored to have been built on top of a cemetery where soldiers are buried.  Workers claim to hear footsteps and see apparitions of soldiers often.

My daughter did not believe me when I told her I had been communicating with a spirit through the dowsing rods.  So I gave them to her and told her to hold them and just see what happens!  The wind was blowing very hard toward the west(in one direction only).  Anyone who uses dowsing rods knows how LIGHT they are so they, if anything, would be blowing radically in different directions.  It would almost make it impossible for the dowsing rods to go AGAINST the wind.  We were on the far side of the Lighthouse and no one was around us( I am assuming because it was only around 10:00am in the morning).  We sat down on a picnic table......and well..... you can see what happens next!!!   NOTE*  I had been here just a few minutes earlier with my niece having awesome communication(Posted as well)so I went to get my daughter so she could watch us communicating with a spirit.  You'll notice my daughter's face turning red and the disbelieving look on her face.  She couldn't believe what was happening!!!!!

I had already been communicating with a spirit of a young man who was a solider buried there. He said he was 20 years old and enjoyed company. :) He said it was TRUE that the lighthouse was buried over a cemetery.  We were communicating with him through the dowsing rods as well as EVP's.

I WILL BE returning for a longer VISIT next time.......AT NIGHT!!!!!

AMERICAN GHOST CONFERENCE-AMAZING PHOTOS- YOU WON'T BELIEVE YOUR EYES!!!!

So, the American Ghost Conference was another GREAT success this year!!!  I love this conference.  It is held in Decatur, Illinois by Troy Taylor.  I have made some great friends over the years at this conference.

Ok.  I am going off track from tonight's subject but I couldn't help it, I just had to show you guys some of the AMAZING pics I got!!!

Below is a picture of me and Luke Naliborski.  I met Luke years back at one of the first AGS conferences when it was held in Alton, Illinois.  Luke works with Troy and they both are really nice guys.  Below is one of the first pics I want to share with you guys....I am SOOOO excited about it!  Luke has just written and published his first book.  LIGHTS OUT-MORE TRUE TALES OF GHOSTS FROM THE LIGHTER SIDE OF DARKNESS.  CONGRATS LUKE!!!!!

Anyway, back to my story.  I was talking to Luke about his book and told him I would buy one if he would sign it for me.  He said sure, but because there were so many people around we stepped over to the side and one of Luke's friends took our picture. WELL.....you can see for yourself....it wasn't just ME and LUKE....we had company!  When I looked at the picture I couldn't believe it!!!  I couldn't WAIT to show Luke and see what he thought about it.  Luke and a couple of the other guys that I consider professionals in the field of paranormal were VERY INTERESTED in it.  They could not explain it and one of the guys said he didn't think it was an ORB it was a ROD.  This was a term I had never heard before.   Rods are like orbs except for their shape. Also, rods seem to leave a tail of light behind them as they streak across the film area. Believers say that a rod is an intense amount of energy a type of strange bug we can´t see with our eyes or even beings of another dimension, also known as ultra-terrestials. Many believe that a rod is proof of the existence of the paranormal because rods seem to leave a trail of light behind them and they seem to travel at very fast speeds. Rods are also captured mostly on moving film and camcorders. Rods are also known as energy rods, light rods and swimmers.  Whatever THEY are they look cool!!!  Now, Luke....he wasn't that excited about IT going right through his neck! lol
