About Me

My photo
Behind Every Cloud is a Kindred Spirit (BECKS)I lost my grandfather when I was 17. I had a VERY difficult time getting over it. How could I still communicate with him? I loved him so much I didn't think I could live without him. I read everything I could get my hands on to do with the "afterlife" and that started it all...the love of Ghost Hunting and the Paranormal. I have been researching the paranormal for over 37 years!! It is my way of staying in touch with my grandfather. Being a Ghost Hunter is not always as exciting as it seems on TV. Many nights I have sat in the dark and not a thing happened. BUT it is those times you DO get that one voice, that one explainable picture or have an experience that sends chills down your back that makes it sooo worth it all!!! My purpose of this blog is not to make people believe in ghosts but maybe to open their minds just a little bit... I LOVE this crazy thing called Ghost Hunting. It is as much a part of me as breathing. I am just a girl that refuses to accept we can't still contact our loved ones after they die. My grandfather won't let me.

Adding pictures

Ok everyone. Some bad news. Blogger will NOT allow anyone else to post pictures on my blog. You have to be an author. The only way it can be done is through email and then I can upload it(with your permission of course) and we can talk about it on the blog. Or if you would rather talk about it privately, I'll be glad to do that as well. But I would love to post them for everyone to enjoy.

Sorry, I had hoped we could all post pictures but I guess it does make since. That way there arent any "nudity" or any other "unwanted" pictures posted on the site.

Email your pics to beckylvickers3@yahoo.com if you like.

Funny Story

Ok..here goes my attempt to tell you guys a funny story.

A few years ago, a friend and I went to Boston and also Salem Mass.  This was his first time to "officially " go ghost hunting with me.  Below is a picture of...lets call him "G".  I can't give you his real name and besides he has know idea that I am going to post these pics or tell this story.  So  ssshhhh our secret.

But as you can see....he is no "whimpy" little guy. Ok back to the story.  So we had gone to Salem one evening and did a walking tour that told us all about the people in the Great Witch Trial in Salem.  In their story, they told us of the beliefs that once a witch died she then became a "black cat" and could haunt people.  And to this day, many believe in Salem that a "black cat" is the spirit of a  decreased witch.  Well, "G" is listening intensely to every word(as I was)and soon the tour was over.

So, "G" and I decided to go do some investigating on our own.  We went to an "old jail house"(I believe that is what it was, sorry I should have taken notes) that had been abandon for years.

Well, we had rented a car(and sorry forgot to mention it's in October) and it had to be 30 below 0!!!!  Ok...maybe NOT 30 below but it was freezing. So I asked "G" to get out and go take some pics for me.  Being the "manly man" he is....he said "no problem".  Again, it is very late into the night and we are all alone at this "Creepy old abandon jailhouse".  Well I am sitting in the car, just enjoying the heat when all of the sudden...I hear SCREAMING  and "G" jumps in the car all out of breath!  I thought something BAD had happened.  I was like "whats wrong.....whats wrong??????"  he said, "oh my gosh!!!!!! There is a black cat out there that came out of the weeds!!!!!!"  I was thinking soooooooo........... then he said "you know...it MUST BE A WITCH!!!"  I laughed so hard I thought I would die!!  He was scared to death!!!  I'm still laughing as I write this at the thought of this "Big Bad" guy running as fast as he could to get to the car because he thought a WITCH was after him!!! Needless to say....we left and I laughed all the way back to the hotel.

Ok...theres my story.  If you didn't think it was funny, sorry..... I guess you had to be there.lol

But just between me and you.....and don't ever tell "G"....I think he may have "picked up" a little something from there.

Mr. Marlacara

http://www.mysanantonio.com/community/north_central/news/article/Malacara-is-an-icon-at-the-Menger-Hotel-950603.php

This is Mr. Marlacara.  He knows everything you need to know about this hotel, including all the ghost stories.  I interviewed him and had the best time!! If you look close, you will see a small orb behind him when I took this pic. I gave him copies of some of the pics I had taken.  The one of the face in the courtyard(previously posted with top hat) and some others.  If you can catch him one on one, ask him to show you HIS photo album he has in his desk.  He doesn't show to everyone, but if you ask nicely I'm sure he will. lol

The Menger Hotel-San Antonio, Tx

So, this is the Menger Hotel in San Antonio, Tx.  This is the Hotel I did my research paper on to get my Cert. in Ghost Hunting.  There are so many things to write about at this hotel.  http://mengerhotel.com/  The first picture is just the outside of the hotel around 1:30am, the second pic is of the lobby area.  Look close, I think you can see several orbs.  This was such a Grand Place in its time....and even now, the beauty is awesome.  The third pic is of the courtyard at the Menger.  This was my favorite place.  You just feel very peaceful and you just know that the people who stayed here years ago loved it!!!

Alton, IL

The Unitarian Church, Alton IL

Inside the Unitarian Church, Alton, IL

T
Alton, IL where slaves were kept.

This is a great place to investigate.  A friend of mine and I went to Alton, IL in 2006 and spent the night in this great old Church. This Church has had its share of bad luck.  It has burned twice, and their Rev. committed suicide. We did the Alton, Ghost tours and got to see a lot of cool places.  Like in the second picture, this was underground of an apartment building where they used to keep slaves in the dark and just barely enough food and water to stay alive.  It was very cold and creepy.  Got to love it!!!  If you get the chance, take a quick trip to Alton, there is soooo much to do and see if you like the paranormal.  http://www.prairieghosts.com/alton.html

The body of Rev. Phillip Mercer, 48, a suicide, was found at 5:15 Tuesday afternoon in the First Unitarian Church of which he had been minister for the last six years and in which his study was located. The church is located at 110 East Third Street.
A piece of sash cord about the neck, his body was found suspended from the transom of a door leading from the Sunday School room at the rear of the church edifice into a hallway from which there is a door leading into the yard of the church.
It is the belief of Deputy Coroner Klunk that the minister had been dead at least 24 hours when his body was found. His neck had apparently been broken, and a chair, standing near the body, indicated that he had stepped from the chair after the sash cord had been affixed.  To this day, his body has never been claimed.

Reports of ghostly footsteps; mysterious odors; a strange sensation in the basement; feelings of pressure on the back and/or shoulders; doors being unlocked and locked on their own; sensation of a spirit in the sanctuary; sounds of a crowd of people, but no one is in the church.

Haunted Places

Ok. I'm back! Had dental work, so didn't get to post. So lets get going.
Lets talk about HAUNTED PLACES.

You know you are not alone. There is no sound and nothing you can see, but it is like the room is breathing. There is a heaviness you can't explain except with abstract words like "sorrow" or "melancholy" maybe even "uneasiness". Investigations too wrapped up in science might laugh at you or ask you to move on to the next detail, but the moment should not be overlooked.

Study of the paranormal has shifted from a psychic to an instrumental science-based field, and with the change of approach, an important aspect of ghostly experiences has been tossed aside. Many hauntings begin with simply feeling something or the feeling of being watched.

As an investigator you should always note these feelings and ask witnesses about them if they don't mention them. The feeling of a place can have a dramatic effect on someones mood, and some theorize it might even play on their personality. Haunted places have been known to change a person. At the very least, that energy can often be felt, almost as if you are reliving a moment of a violent or emotional event.

There are so many HAUNTED PLACES...houses(old and new), theaters, hospitals, certain "spots" in the outdoors, and sometimes it's not the "place" it's whats "in" the place. Such as objects...an old chair, blanket just about anything that someone may have loved when they where living.

As with any investigation. Do your homework!! Be sure you know the history of a place you may be wanting to check out. History is key. But all of you know that.

Next post, we talk pacific places.

Beck's everyday ghost hunter: Cemetery-Just a cool place

Beck's everyday ghost hunter: Cemetery-Just a cool place

Cemetery-Just a cool place

 Ok.

Ok back to my pics.  There are no orbs in these pictures, sometimes the pictures are just cool(and yes, I know I say COOL a lot)by themselves.  This is a little cemetery we ran across in Hot Springs, Ark.  Sorry I can't remember the name of it, but it had headstones dating back to the late 1700's.  We didn't go at night because we weren't familiar with the area and it was just me, my Mom, my daughter and her friend so we decided we wouldn't.

BTW-Before you investigate ANY cemetery, be sure you DO go durning the day to check things out.  Like make sure and look for holes in ground, obstacles that you or someone else could get injured on.  Once you've done that, you good to go.

As long as I have your attention, don't forget to check out the terms and the other stuff to the right of the sight.  I have been trying to update those when I can.  I have been putting the date that I updated it on so you can see easily the changes I've made.

Ok. Happy hunting!

American Ghost Society

I can't remember if I have posted this website before but here it is again.  I am a member of the American Ghost Society and Troy Taylor is the Founder.  He has many great books if you care to check them out. http://www.prairieghosts.com/ags.html  Check out their website and register for there newletter.  It's pretty good.

Mills Cemetery's Ghost of Smiley-Garland,Tx

No matter what the truth is, here is a grave marker for the family in the cemetery.

SMILEY

Mother: Belle Hall, born October 30, 1890
Father: Chas Oscar, born March 17, 1890
Daughters:
Lilath Merle, born June 20, 1914
Gretta May, born December 27, 1915
Charlena, born February 9, 1927

All Died May 9, 1927

So I don't know what to think about this story other than I think I would like to check it out. There are several stories of Mr. Smiley at the Mills Cemetery in Garland, Tx. One is.... that one tragic evening, he killed his family then himself.hhhuumm ok... But the story I tend to believe is that of a Tornado came through Garland on May 9,1927 and destroyed most of the city.

The reason I tend to believe this story is because if there had been a mass killing of a family, then suicide, you would be able to find more documents on the event. It to me, would have been "news worthy". You know, lots of articles written about it.

But there ARE documents of a violent Tornado that hit the City of Garland on May 9, 1927 and destroyed much of the city, therefore that would explain the deaths of Mr. Smiley, his wife and three daughters all on the same day.  It is a sad story, whatever the truth is, but Mr. Smiley was only 37 and his youngest daughter was only three months when they all met their fate.  What a sad, sad story.

The story goes, that his spirit walks around the cemetery at night, his soul tormented at the lost of his entire family.  There is another story...that takes place on Halloween night that has to do with the cemetery but if it waayyy out there so I don't want to pass it on.  If you are interested you can look it up on the internet I'm sure.

Although I have never been there(but plan on going soon)they say his grave is easy to find. Just enter off Commerce Street onto Mills and it is just to the left.

So, that is my cemetery story for today.  If anyone has been there, please let me know what you thought.

In honor of the King this week.

Very bright Orb
Orb and because I like this pic.
Head Stones from the Witch Cemetery

As promised- Cemetery pics.

Well, here are the COOL pics from cemeteries that I promised.  Most of them are in Salem, Mass.  I think this is just one of the coolest places in the world to go if you are interested in afterlife, death, ghost...you know.... the NORMAL STUFF. lol

The first pic(to the left) is that of a boy that was playing on a very dangerous walkway surrounding an old witch cemetery in Salem.  They were several people with us and we were all telling him to get off the ledge because if he fell the spikes of the fence would be what he would have landed on.  I don't know about you.....but I think he had two guardian angles watching out for him.  What do you think?  One on each side.  hhuummm

The second pic.....uuummm look like anything you've seen before??  hint...Like the last pic?  The orb has just moved to the bottom of the headstone.  Oh yeah....you were guessing???

The third pic is that of, Giles Corey,( I believe)the one man that refused to enter a plea as a witch back in 1683 and was crushed to death under heavy stones in an attempt to force him to do so. At least five more of the accused died in prison.  This is the place he is said to have been stoned to death.

The fourth pic is just the Coolest(ok..I say COOL a lot don't I????) oh well, still is it a really, really Cool pic of an orb taken at the same witch cemetery in Salem.

Cemeteries- Con't-Walnut Bend, Tx

So, I plan on talking about cemeteries most of this week.  Just giving you a heads up.  The above pics were taken on a friend of mines property.  His daughter was having a sixteenth birthday and wanted to go ghost hunting.  So, I said ok.  My friend has this old old cemetery located in the middle of some woods down on his property in Walnut Bend, Tx.  He told me about it so we decided to go check it out.
After all the cake and ice cream, we loaded up about 10 girls and off we went.  I explained there would be no goofing around, or saying anything bad, that we would respect those who live here.  They all agreed but where scared to death!
As we walked around, we began to notice that almost ALL the graves where those of children or babies. But we could only find like one set of parents.  Because of the dates(back in the 1800's) we guessed it must have been like a foster home where the two adults took in babies and children.
We began to walk around and the girls were so scared they huddled together and didn't say a word. lol    You could not have pulled them apart if you tried!  So, I told them to talk out loud, like they were talking to children.  Ask them if they are happy we are here, or if they wanted to play, or talk.  So the girls started asking all kinds of questions that you would ask children.  They did so good!  The first pic is that AFTER we started talking out loud and the second was taken just minutes before when the girls were so quite.  See, to me the children were so happy we were there.  They probably hadn't had anyone come to see them in a really long time.
There are so many orbs in the first pic.  I was really surprised because we had not walked yet in the area the photo was taken so we couldn't have stirred up any dust or dirt.  And thank you girls, for the respect you showed.  I think they(girls) all felt pretty good after we left and maybe had a better understanding of what the afterlife might be like.
We had a great night and what a great place to visit.  May the children and the set of foster parents rest in peace.

Cemeteries-One of my favorite places

Cemeteries are one of my favorite places to "hang out".   They are creepy, scary and sometimes very beautiful.  Cemeteries seem to offer the ghost hunter an excellent chance for strange phenomena and spirit photos, perhaps because of the theory involving "spirit portals" and "doorways" in many burial grounds.  Cemeteries with unmarked graves, where desecration has taken place or where tragic events have occurred often become haunted.  A search through historical records can often point a researcher to a haunted graveyard.  YEAH!!!

One thing I have to be sure and bring up is, be sure to check into your state and local laws about entering cemeteries after dark. Be sure that you are not breaking any laws.  Most law enforcement are pretty nice if they "catch" you in a cemetery at night, as long as they see you are being respectful and not bothering anything or ANYONE.

A few things you should remember when investigating a cemetery:

1.  Never go alone.  Make sure you have someone with you in case of emergency.
2.  Get permission if possible.  This only makes things better for everyone.
3. As with any investigation, arrive at the scene with skepticism and make an effort to find a natural explanation for any phenomena that occurs.
4.  Make Notes!  Big important part of your investigation is to make notes of time, date, temp and weather conditions.  They could make a difference when determining your conclusion.
5.  Finally, always but always be respectful to the dead and remember that everyone that is in that cemetery was someones loved one, maybe even yours. Always leave it just as you found it.  And just me, I always thank my HOST for a great evening. :)

Some of my favorite and best photos are of cemeteries, both at night and durning the day.  So, pack your equipment and if your in Texas....your water....and plan a date with a cemetery.  I will be waiting to see your pics and here your stories.

My House

So, there are no pics with this one.  Just thought I would share a personal story with you.  My daughter and I moved into our house about 5 years ago.  My house in not old nor has anyone that I'm aware of, ever died here.  The house itself is only 8 years old.  We started having really strange things happen a few years ago.  Well, me being the ghost hunter and all,  thought it was just our imagination because there was no history of anything happening in this house.

My daughter told me one night, she and a friend were upstairs and they could hear this noise downstairs.  Well, she said she nor her friend had been downstairs so they went to check it out.  Our guest bathroom's water was running FULL FORCE!!!!  Like all the way turned on.  What in the world???? How does that happen?  My daughter was kinda freaked out by it, but turned off the water and called me.  We have the kind of faucet that is all-in-one.  You have to push it up hard to turn it on. STRANGE.
Then almost, well not almost...every night, different times, our TV in the living room would come on all by itself with the volume all the way up.  Every night I would just get up and go turn it off.  At first, I thought maybe it had something to do with the DVR or something.  I asked everyone I knew and no one elses DVR did that.  As a matter of fact, they all said it should not be doing that at all.  Not one person that I ask, had ever experienced this.
Well after, about two weeks of getting up every night, I had had enough!!!!  I got up, and went to the living room, very calmly and said out loud " I love this house and I am staying here no matter how many times you turn on this TV.  As long as you keep turning it on, I'll keep turning it off.  I'm not leaving!"  I turned the TV off and went back to bed.  The next night, nothing......and the night after that.....nothing....and the night after that.....nothing.........and nothing from then on out.  So, I guess we got that cleared up!!! lol
But really, we have not had another strange thing go on since then.  Sometimes, you just have to take a stand.  Don't be scared.  I never felt threatened nor was I scared....tired and sleepy....yes... but not scared.
So, I guess I just want you to know, that if you are having STRANGE things go on...take a stand and let THEM know you can live peacefully together as long as they don't turn on the TV in the middle of the night.  :))))

McPike Mansion, Alton, IL

So, this is McPike Mansion in Alton, Il.  I had a great time here.  For a small town, it is covered with haunted history.  So much to do here.  Ok.  I know the above pictures are hard to make out and I am hoping you can enlarge them on your computer to see the faces better.
The second set of pictures are the same photo I just enlarged the one that has the "faces" in it.
Now, here's my story.  I went up to Alton, Il for one of the annual American Ghost Society's Conference.  I registered late, and therefore, missing out on an investigation of the famous "McPikes" mansion.  I was soooooo bummed!!!  So, on my way to the airport, returning from my trip, I was talking to the cab driver.  He asked me if I got to do everything I wanted and I said "no".  I missed out on an investigation on the old McPikes Mansion.  He said, no problem.  I know where it is, if you would like to go there before catching your flight.  ARE YOU KIDDING!!!!! YESSSS I would love to go there.

So, off we went. After a short drive, he pulled up in the driveway of the McPikes Mansion.  No one was there because it is abandoned and most people go at night.  I got out of the cab and walked just a little ways up in the front yard, because there are NO TRESPASSING signs posted everywhere. I just kinda walked around the front yard taking pictures.  I got back in the cab just feeling awesome that I got to at lease see the outside of the mansion.  Of course, that cab driver got a GREAT tip!!!!!

When I got home I downloaded my pics and my last pics were of the mansion.  My first thought was, wow what a beautiful old mansion and what it must have been like to live here.  THEN.... I looked at my pictures and little closer and couldn't believe my eyes!  I believe there are two people, well one man and a young girl in the window on the second floor.  I could see them clearly!!!  I was sooo excited!!!

If you look close, (may have to enlarge) you can see a little girl's face and to me, appears to be screaming... or with her mouth open.  And right behind her, standing up, looks like a man, maybe with a beard, one of those that goes around the sides of a mans face up to his sideburns.  I don't know.  What do you think?  Mr. McPike or another resident ghost?

I have included below some information about the McPikes Mansion.  Please, Please go to their site and listen to the EVP they have.  You will just click on the Photo's, Orbs and EVP tab on the left.  It is one of the best EVP's I have ever heard.  Nick(Ghost Adventures) has got nothing compared to this. Plus I think that Ghost Adventures show is entertaining, but it's crap! lol  Just my option.  Anyway, you can plainly hear the word HENRY after the guy ask "what is your name?".  Don't miss it.

Ok.  Everybody, this is a long post and I am sorry.  There is just lots to talk about on the subject of the McPike Mansion.  Until next time.........

The house was built in 1869 by architect Lucas Pfeiffenberger.  Original owner of the Mansion was Henry Guest McPike.  The McPike family owned 15 acres of land, then known as Mount Lookout Park.  Here McPike, a horticulturist, perfected his McPike Grape.  The family lived in this, their country home, until 1936.

The house has changed hands several times since its original owner Henry McPike.  The building has been home to Browns Business College and was later owned by Paul Laichinger, who rented rooms in the house to other occupants.

The house has not been occupied since the 1950's.  Before weather and vandals brought extensive damage to the structure, it was a regal addition to the Illinois town of Alton.

The mansion featured 11 marble fireplaces and beautifully carved stairway banisters, all of which have been stolen during its abandonment. Intricate carved trim still border the ceiling in one of the front rooms.

McPike Mansion today is owned by Sharyn and George Luedke who have been trying to nurture this great house back to its regal state.  It is readily known today for its hauntings in paranormal circles. The grounds are often visited by ghost hunters and haunted tour groups in the area.

It is not uncommon to find in photos of the mansion, orbs, balls of light, even figures appearing in the windows that were not seen by the human eye when the photo was taken.

This Grand Ole House is thought to still house many of the  spirits that once lived here.  Many Psychics and Mediums have felt the presence of what they believe to be McPike family, servants, as well as some of those who resided in and owned the house since 1936.

The Flamingo Hilton Hotel and Casino is a landmark location for Sin City’s infancy. It was opened in 1946 when Las Vegas was blossoming. The Flamingo’s founding father, Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel was an infamous mobster who met his end in 1947. Bugsy was pivotal in bringing about the gambling and glamour to Las Vegas; transforming it from the dusty little Nevada town it used to be.

Bugsy Siegel is said to haunt the Presidential Suite at the Flamingo. Ever since his violent end in 1947, dozens of visitors to the Presidential Suite have reported seeing his specter hanging around the pool table or in the bathroom. Bugsy Siegel personally selected the green-colored bidet, linoleum, and toilets for the bathroom. He felt that the soothing pistachio green was a very ‘classy’ color.

I Love this pic!  The colors are perfect, the lighting just right, and of course, Bugsy making his appearance.  What a cool picture.

The Menger-The face that I see

The Menger Hotel in San Antonio is the most haunted hotel in Texas. It was built in 1859 on the site of Menger′s brewery and is haunted by a number of ghosts.
Gutson Borlum was the sculpture of Mount Rushmore and was known to spend many, many hours out in the garden of the Menger Hotel.  Let me tell you, I did my research paper on this hotel and I had to many experiences to list.  I loved it!!  I read lots about "spirits" that may not be very nice at this hotel, but I have to tell you...I stayed two nights here alone and did my research and never felt any kind of unkind spirits at all.  The above picture I believe is Gutson Borlum. I think you can make out his facial structure, eyes, mustache, and even looks like a hat.   I showed my picture to the manager and he instantly took me to the second picture and said" so, you met Mr. Borlum did you?".   If your interested, American Ghost Society will be doing a Haunted Weekend November 11-12  http://www.bumpinthenight.net/texas.html  I am totally planning on attending.

I will tell you a couple things that happen to me, try not to make them to long.  I experienced loud footsteps walking up behind me in a hallway where I was all alone.  I had an EMF Meter and I was looking down... and I could hear someone walking up behind me.  The footsteps were so loud, that I never looked up and just moved to the side of the hall and said out loud..."excuse me".  Then the footsteps were gone so I looked up....a little confused because no one was there. The footsteps were so loud I never doubted for a minute someone was walking up behind me.  hhhuuummm
It was probably 3 or 4 in the am and I decided that I had done enough so I was going to go to my room.  I had been interviewing the night staff so I was on the bottom floor.  I was so tired and I just wanted to lay down, so I went to the elevators.  At the Menger, they have the original elevators so at the top you see the little needle going up and coming down, so you know exactly where the elevator is.  I looked up and it was on the top floor(not sure, but seems like it was the 12th).  So I just took a deep breath and said, "man, now I have to wait for it to come back down".  At that exact moment....the elevator doors opened!!!! I looked up and the needle was on the first floor.  You got to be kidding me!!! No way!!! So I graciously stepped in and said, thank you very much. lol

There are many more stories I could tell about this hotel. By far, it is one of my favorites.  Hope to see you in November and get ready...you won't be disappointed.

The Driskill-Little girl-Yes???? NO????? Maybe?????

So if you read the previous post... what do you think?  Notice the color difference from the left side of the gold hand rail to the right.  Notice the "blue hase"?  And in the above picture, can you make out a little girls face with the two eyes, facial structure, short brownish hair with the part to the left near the shoes of Mr. Driskill(A Picture of Mr. Driskill in the main lobby) Yes? No? Maybe?  What do you think?

The Driskell in Austin, Tx-7-2011 (little girl)

There is a story documented in history in which the young girl of a popular Senator of the time met her fate while chasing a ball along the “Grand” staircase in the hotel. This occurred in the year of 1887. It was reported a week after her death that she was up and playing at the hotel with her little ball. This incident was actually the first recording of the paranormal at the rumored haunted Driskill Hotel.

We stayed at the Driskill in Austin just last weekend and LOVED it!  There are soooo many stories about this hotel.  It is said to be THE most active Haunted Hotel in Texas.  Well, there were certainly lots of people trying to see if that were true.  I went out after midnight to do my own investigation and had to avoid several "ghost tours".  The above pic has one of the only orbs I was able to get.  But it is on the staircase where a little girl supposedly lost her life.  The is one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever seen!!! It is "pricey" but it is worth it.  Go check out this really cool hotel.  You won't be disappointed.
I
