About Me

My photo
Behind Every Cloud is a Kindred Spirit (BECKS)I lost my grandfather when I was 17. I had a VERY difficult time getting over it. How could I still communicate with him? I loved him so much I didn't think I could live without him. I read everything I could get my hands on to do with the "afterlife" and that started it all...the love of Ghost Hunting and the Paranormal. I have been researching the paranormal for over 37 years!! It is my way of staying in touch with my grandfather. Being a Ghost Hunter is not always as exciting as it seems on TV. Many nights I have sat in the dark and not a thing happened. BUT it is those times you DO get that one voice, that one explainable picture or have an experience that sends chills down your back that makes it sooo worth it all!!! My purpose of this blog is not to make people believe in ghosts but maybe to open their minds just a little bit... I LOVE this crazy thing called Ghost Hunting. It is as much a part of me as breathing. I am just a girl that refuses to accept we can't still contact our loved ones after they die. My grandfather won't let me.

ALCATRAZ IS PURE EVIL! ONE OF THE MOST ACTIVE PARANORMAL PLACES IN SAN FRANCISCO!

One of the most evil places in America!!!  Yes.....Alcatraz!  And I can't wait!  I will be visiting this place NEXT WEEK!!!!!  So, you guys hang around and when I get back in a couple of weeks, hopefully I will have some "good stuff" for you. :)

Below is just some information about Alcatraz but at the bottom is a great link about the GHOSTS particularly.....

In the late 1850s, the first inmates to occupy Alcatraz were military prisoners who were put to work building a new prison that later became known as "The Rock." The U.S. Army used the island until 1933, at which time the Federal Government decided to open a maximum-security, minimum-privilege penitentiary to deal with the most incorrigible inmates.
Alcatraz was designed to break rebellious prisoners by putting them in a structured, monotonous routine until their release. Prisoners were given four basic things - food, clothing, shelter and medical care. Receiving anything beyond that had to be earned. Famous criminals, such as Al Capone, George "Machine-Gun" Kelly, Alvin Karpis and Arthur "Doc" Barker, spent time in Alcatraz. Mobsters in other prisons often managed to manipulate special privileges from guards, but not at Alcatraz.

Tough Punishment

  • The Strip Cell
Prisoners refusing to follow prison rules risked being confined to the Strip Cell, located on the lower tier of D Block. It was a dark steel cell, where inmates would be stripped naked and given water and bread once daily, an occasional meal and a mattress at night. The only 'toilet' was a hole in the cell floor and there was no sink. While there, convicts had no contact with others, spending their time in pitch-dark solitude.
  •
The Hole on D Block
Similar to the strip cell, there were five 'hole' cells also on the lower tier, where prisoners were kept in isolation for up to 19 days. The cells had a toilet, sink, lightbulb and a mattress provided during the night only.

Prison Closure

Because of the huge cost to refurbish the prison it was closed in 1963. Later the island and parts of the prison were reopened by the Parks Services for daily public tours.

Tales of Torture

The fact that Alcatraz was built on an island and kept so isolated from public view, tales of inmates being tortured and of their bitter spirits coming back to haunt the halls of Alcatraz began to circulate.Image result for alcatraz ghost

The Ghost Stories of Alcatraz

  • The Utility Corridor
One of the areas which some claim is the most active with paranormal activity is a utility corridor where inmates Coy, Cretzer and Hubbard were plummeted with bullets after a failed prison escape. It is there that in 1976 a night security guard reported hearing unexplained eerie clanging sounds coming from inside.

  • Cell 14D
Cell 14D, one of the 'hole' cells is believed by some to be very active with spirits. Visitors and employees have reported feeling a raw coldness and at times a sudden 'intensity' encompasses the cell.
Tales have been told of an event in the 1940s, when a prisoner locked-in 14D screamed throughout the night that a creature with glowing eyes was killing him. The next day guards found the man strangled to death in the cell. No one ever claimed responsibility for the convict's death, however the next day when doing head counts, the guards counted one too many prisoners. Some of the guards claimed seeing the dead convict in line with the other inmates, but only for a second before he vanished.

  • Warden Johnston
Other stories have circulated that Warden Johnston, nicknamed "The Golden Rule Warden," also faced a bizarre event while showing some of his guests around the prison. According to the story, Johnston and his group heard someone sobbing from inside the prison walls, and then a cold wind whisked past the group. Johnston could never explain any reason for the occurances.

  • Cell blocks A, B, and C
Visitors to cellblocks A and B. claim they have heard crying and moaning. A psychic visiting wrote that while in Block C he came upon a disruptive spirit name Butcher. Prison records show that another inmate in block C murdered Abie Maldowitz, a mob hitman known as Butcher.

  • The Ghost of Al CaponeAl Capone, who spent his last years at Alcatraz with his health in decline from untreated syphilis, took up playing the banjo with a prison band. Fearing he would be killed if he spent his recreational time in the "yard," Capone received permission to spend recreation time practicing his banjo in the shower room.
In recent years, a park ranger claimed he heard banjo music coming from the shower room. Not familiar with the history of Alcatraz, the ranger could not find a reason for the sound and documented the strange event. Other visitors and employees have reported hearing the sound of a banjo coming from the prison walls.

  • More Paranormal Reports
Other odd events experienced over the years include guards smelling smoke, but finding no fire; sounds of unexplained crying and moaning; unexplained cold spots in areas of the prison and claims of seeing ghosts of prisoners or military personnel.

Below is a GREAT link about the ghosts of Alcatraz!  Check it out.  And btw...if you have ever been to Alcatraz I would LOVE to hear about your experience!!!  Email me or leave a comment and let's see what others have experienced! :)

NATIVE GROUNDS, AN OLD SCHOOL HOUSE BUILT OVER AN OLD WATER WELL AND NOW A HOTEL WHERE DEAD PEOPLE ROAM THE HALLS! NO WONDER THERE ARE GHOSTS HERE!!!

It was from  the roof of the seven-story Hotel San Carlos in Phoenix, that 22-year old Leone Jensen decided to end her life. She was dressed in a white evening gown as she had expected to enjoy a night on the town with her boyfriend. After her dreams for a wonderful night of dancing were shattered, she decided she could not live with a broken heart. After writing a suicide note she made her way to the roof of the brand new hotel in 1928, looked over the edge to the streets below, and jumped to her death, thus giving Phoenix its first suicide.

This is in a frame on one of the
floors.  It's newspapers clipping
from the death of Leone.

Leone's suicide note.

I just this weekend got to visit this wonderful hotel.  I did not get to investigate because the staff at the front desk is VERY strict about you "looking for ghosts".  The lady at the desk didn't want to answer any of my questions about the hauntings at the hotel.  She would not even let me walk around and see the hotel.  So, I sat in the lobby trying to figure a way to walk around and take some pictures(for you guys of course).  From where I was sitting I could see a staircase behind where you catch the elevators.... HHHUUMMM I could just "walk" up to the floors and look around........so I got up and walked slowly to the staircase....trying not to bring any attention to myself and much to my surprise....you had to have a KEY just to use the stairway.  I thought this was really unusual because most of the time stair ways are for emergencies or if the elevators doesn't work.  Why would you have to have a KEY just to go up the stairs???  I'm guessing....there's something they don't want you to see.

Now, before you jump in your car and head out to this place, let me warn you..... the lobby area is extremely small, the smallest one I have ever seen as a matter of fact and there are camera's everywhere!!!  So if you CAN get permission I would and if you can't...... don't say I didn't warn you. :)

Now, I am just going to leave it at this.....Deak and I where able to get upstairs and take a look around.  Enough said..... :)

Ever since that night of May 7, 1928, guests of the Hotel San Carlos have reported many sightings of her ghost. Typically, she is seen as the "white cloud of a woman's figure, accompanied by unexplainable breezes". While some guests may find the idea of the hotel being haunted either exciting or frightening, it has become an accepted responsibility for working at the hotel. For example, the housekeeping staff are so superstitious that they refuse to work on a floor alone; it has become standard procedure now that they work in teams of two or three, no matter what floor they work on.

Most of the hallways look the same.
Leone is probably the most famous permanent resident of the San Carlos, but she is by no means the only ghost. Guests have also reported hearing the sounds of at least three or four children running up and down the hallways, laughing and playing. The story of these children can be traced to a history before the hotel was built, but I shall take a moment and go even further into our prehistory.

Jumping backwards in time roughly 400 years, the Native American tribe known to us today as the Hohokam, made the Rio Salado valley their home. In the heart of this valley, an underground countercurrent water spring provided refreshment to the tribe. The natives worshipped their god of Knowledge and Learning at this spot. They believed that from this spring came mahchig, or great knowledge. Whatever great wisdom they gleaned there however was lost when the tribe was forced to move on. It was the modern Pima tribes who named them huhugam, or "those who have gone."

Fast forward again to the early settlement of Phoenix, this very same spring was re-discovered and tapped with a well. Phoenix's very first schoolhouse was built on this site in 1874, with this well water providing refreshment to a new generation of students. It was a one-room adobe building with a dirt floor, but it served the humble forefathers of our town well. Five years later, in 1879, that building was replaced with a two-story brick building - only the fourth brick building in Phoenix. At that time, it was the northernmost building along Center Street, now known as Central Avenue. In 1893, the brick schoolhouse was expanded to sixteen rooms.

The haunted pool area on the 3rd floor.

It was at some time during the late 1890's that we have different accounts of three or four boys drowning in the well. The school building was eventually declared unsafe, condemned, and the property put up for sale in 1916. Could these be the boys who can still be heard playing in the hallways of the Hotel San Carlos?

This very special well is still in use today; it resides in the basement of the Hotel San Carlos. It serves as the sole source of water to the guests of the hotel. The San Carlos is the only building in Phoenix that is not part of the city's water supply. Even today, hotel guests remark to the staff about the high quality of the cool, refreshing water that comes from the original, antique brass fixtures in their rooms.

The penthouse that resides on the roof has a very interesting story of its own to tell. Charles Harris owned half of the hotel, and also managed it with his wife Elsie and their two sons. Mr. Harris had the penthouse built on the roof for his family to live in. When Charles Harris died in 1946 of natural causes, the hotel went into his family trust. The Harris family moved out and let the trust take over management of the hotel. The original intention was to rent the penthouse out to VIP guests, including some of the many Hollywood actors who frequented the hotel. However, to this day, the penthouse has never and will never be rented out. Yet, work is always being done to maintain it. Electricity is still supplied to it, and it is kept air-conditioned. An expensive proposition to say the least, especially if there are no living guests staying in the penthouse.

THE ALAMO-THE MENGER HOTEL(SAN ANTONIO)- SO MANY GHOSTLY EXPERIENCES TO NAME THEM ALL!!!

I was asked to re-post my blog on the Alamo for someone that is doing a project on the Ghost of the Alamo.  The two previous post are about the Alamo and the Menger Hotel right beside the Alamo.  I did my research paper on the Ghost of the Menger when I was trying to get Certified in this field.  I went to the Menger and ask permission to investigate.  Let me tell you....I went alone...and ask to stay in the most haunted room with the most activity.  I did not really have any experiences in my room BUT every other place in this hotel I had plenty!!!!

1st-  One of my FAVORITE places ever....great pics(orbs, mist, ect) and lots of paranormal activity is...of course....The Alamo in San Antonio Tx.

Originally named Mission San Antonio de Valero, the Alamo served as home to missionaries and their Indian converts for nearly seventy years. Construction began on the present site in 1724. In 1793, Spanish officials secularized San Antonio's five missions and distributed their lands to remaining Indian residents.  A small band of Texans held out for thirteen days against the Centralist army of General Antonio López de Santa Anna.  Although the Alamo finally fell in the early morning hours of March 6, 1836.

As with any battle ground, there are lots of spirits that remain behind...for so many different reasons.  Some because they died so tragically that they don't even realize they are dead, some because they knew this place as home and don't want to leave, some because maybe they feel they have "unfinished" business...such as the battle itself....maybe they are still "battling".  Who knows?  The one thing I can tell you is that there is no shortage of ghosts around the Alamo, you need MORE than just one night to see and do all there is to do.  Reports of soldiers, canons, cries, guns and many more sounds are found here.  And Pics.....Some of my most interesting and favorite photos are from the Alamo.

So, pack up the EMF meters, K-2's and your camera and head to San Antonio for the weekend.
The Alamo, 2009-Nice orb

One of my FAVORITE all time photos!
A solider standing in front of the Alamo.
We could not see him at the time, but the
girl to the right was actually there.

2nd- As long as your at the Alamo, DO NOT miss the opportunity to go to the Menger Hotel right next door.
The Menger is located adjacent to the Alamo and first opened in 1859, just 23 years after the battle at the Alamo, by owner William Menger and architect John Fries.
I had soooo many experiences here.... from the minute I opened my door and the radio was playing...which the bell hop had just told me...one of the things that people were experiencing was the radio already being turned on in their rooms before they checked in.  He also told me the maids were NOT allowed to listen to the music or leave the room if any music was playing!!!Around 3:00am I heard very LOUD footsteps walking up behind me while my head was down taking some reading in one of the hallways, but when I looked up there was no one there!(so loud that I actually said out loud "excuse me, let me get out of your way) voices, cold spots, strange noises and even the elevator opening and closing on its on!........ I'll have to tell you about THAT later...and even a photo with a picture of a face in the courtyard, I believe to be Guston Borlum the sculpture of Mount Rushmore.  DON'T pass this one up!!!

I can say that I LOVE this place!!!  And if you look hard enough you can find secret stairways, dark closets and many places that I'm not sure to many people know about unless they are looking.

Anyway, hope this helps a little with your paper.  And thanks for writing me and letting me know you were doing the paper on me and ghosts! :)
