About Me

My photo
Behind Every Cloud is a Kindred Spirit (BECKS)I lost my grandfather when I was 17. I had a VERY difficult time getting over it. How could I still communicate with him? I loved him so much I didn't think I could live without him. I read everything I could get my hands on to do with the "afterlife" and that started it all...the love of Ghost Hunting and the Paranormal. I have been researching the paranormal for over 37 years!! It is my way of staying in touch with my grandfather. Being a Ghost Hunter is not always as exciting as it seems on TV. Many nights I have sat in the dark and not a thing happened. BUT it is those times you DO get that one voice, that one explainable picture or have an experience that sends chills down your back that makes it sooo worth it all!!! My purpose of this blog is not to make people believe in ghosts but maybe to open their minds just a little bit... I LOVE this crazy thing called Ghost Hunting. It is as much a part of me as breathing. I am just a girl that refuses to accept we can't still contact our loved ones after they die. My grandfather won't let me.

Why are ghost only seen at night?

Another common question I get is "why are ghost only seen at night"?  Because they are scared of people and people sleep at night so that is when ghost can come out and play. lol  No, that's not true so don't go tell anyone that.:)

Ok so here is a better answer.  In short, they are not only seen at night. Ghost are around us at all times of the day.  However, it is true that the majority are experienced after dark.  It is thought that most people die between the hours of 2am and 6am, which is why most occurrences are recorded at night.  Also, at night, their are less people around and some spirits would prefer it that way.  This is only a theory, but it seems to be the most plausible explanation.

Another theory is that ghosts consist of energy and often take the form of light anomalies, which means that they are more difficult to see with the naked eye if the surrounding light is good.  This may explain why ghosts and light anomalies are not often seen or detected during the daylight, as a light is easier to see in the dark and easier to see with the naked eye.

You can capture some great pictures in the daylight.  Ectoplasm is said to be associated with the formation of spirits.  I believe I have captured a picture with just that.

Well hope that helps answer the question on why ghost are only seen at night.  If nothing else, maybe it offers somewhat of an explanation.

This is one of my favorite pictures.  It was taken on my lunch hour at an old abandon cemetery in Lake Dallas.  The Eason Cemetery.  What an awesome place!  Lots of unmarked graves, graves with dates back in the 1800's and as you can see from the Ectoplasm very active.  You can clearly see the mist over these graves.

At the Menger Hotel.  Hard to see but I circled an orb behind the gentleman.

Ghost hunting equipment/ LCPI update

Ok. So everyone is always wanting to know what kind of equipment they should have.  First let me say you DON'T have to spend a lot of money to invest in some really fun equipment to help you on your hunt.  I have listed below some of the basic inexpensive equipment you can use.   (this is for my Uncle Steve who is dying to go out on a hunt!  Now, if he can just talk my aunt into it.lol)

Digital video recorder: DVRs have gotten fabulous in the last few years and there are dozens out there to choose from. Buy quality, because your digital video recorder is one of your primary tools.

Digital Still Camera: It’s all about the Megapixles! – The higher the resolution the more you will be able to zoom in later on when you are analyzing your photos in Photoshop.  I would use no less than a 7.5 megapixle.

Flash Lights: Obviously, this is a no brainer. If you haven’t already moved up to a modern LED flashlight now is a good time. Battery life is much longer, the LED bulbs are almost unbreakable, and they often allow for different colors of light and intensity. However, no matter how good your primary flashlight is every other team member should carry a back up light.

EMF Detector: EMF Detectors pick up electronic fields at a variety of frequencies. Usually, where there are ghosts there are disruptions in the electronic magnetic field. This is one piece of equipment that every ghost hunting expedition should have and they are fairly cheap. Anywhere from $60 and on up.  But the one I have posted a picture of is called a K-2.  This is a lot of fun and definitely a way to communicate with spirits.

This was my first EMF meter.  Very easy to use and only about $15.  If you are just starting out and experimenting, give this one a try.
That should get you started.  Don't forget the very basic things like, pen, paper, first aid kit, batteries, backup light source and a bag to keep all your equipment in. Good luck and happy hunting.
Stay tuned, I am going to be blogging about some "old fashion" ways to do an investigation WITHOUT all the modern day equipment.  Things you have right in your home.

UPDATE:  I am sooooo excited about starting my local paranormal group.  I've ordered T-Shirts(want to look professional, you know. lol), got handbooks and forms all ready to go.  It seems that more and more people are interested in joining.  I am going to send out personal invitations to join, so if anyone is interested please drop me an email(becksghosthunters@yahoo.com) and I will send you an invite for the first ever meet and greet of LAKE CITIES PARANORMAL INVESTIGATIONS(LCPI).  Isn't that a cool name...the PI is kinda like Private Investigators....in a way we are.lol  Hoping the group can meet at lease once a month to go do an investigation in North Texas or wherever someone may need us.  And you don't have to live in the Lake Cities area, but we will probably meet here locally before we head out to play in the dark.  So, if you are welling to drive to the Lake Dallas, Lewisville, Denton area once a month, let me know.  Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Borley Rectory-OMG!!!!!

So, this is the Borley Rectory in  England, also known as The most haunted house in England.
I am taking a self-study course through American Ghost Society and I am studying for certification by them, but in the study guide they talk about the first real paranormal researcher Henry Price.  Henry Price studied the Borley Rectory which just has tons of paranormal activity.  Even today.

There are all sorts of things going on like, bricks being thrown, writings on the walls, ghostly footsteps, unexplained knocks, and so much more.  There are cool pics of this place and of spirits that have been seen there.

The most popular story to the background of Borley was that in 1362 Benedictine Monks built a monastery on the site which would later hold the rectory. Legend told of a nun from the Bures convent, 7 miles southeast of Borley falling in love with a monk from the monastery. They had decided to elope to be together, but the elders discovered their plans. A friend of the monk was to drive a carriage to help them escape. On the fateful night they were captured by the elders. The coachman was beheaded, the monk hanged and the nun was bricked up alive in the walls of the vaults beneath the rectory. Their ghosts have haunted the site ever since.

If you have not read about this place, you should!  It is very interesting.  I have posted a couple of links that you can look at.  There is so much about this place, it would be much to much to write about.

Well, I just wanted to share this information with you guys.  I thought it was awesome!

What you don’t see can hurt you…

Ok.  So I get asked a lot of different questions being a ghost hunter….how do you get rid of ghost? Will ghost hurt you?  Are ghost bad? Are we on tv ????? lol  etc…. But the number one question I get is “Do you ever get scared”?  Are you kidding me??? lol Of course I get scared!  But not like someone that hasn’t dealt with ghost all their lives.  The ghost don’t scare me…I feel like I know enough and have studied enough that I understand or know how to handle a situation that has paranormal activity.  Someone that has not been in this field can be frightened very easily and this could be dangerous.
So, as I set here and ponder the thought of writing a book….YES I am going to write a book!   I am very excited about it.  I have never written a book before but I have always wanted to.  I have tons of journals as I have kept them over the years about my experiences and other “ghostly tales” that I know of.  And I have a couple of writers and publishers that are willing to help me, so we will see how it all comes together.
to p
Anyway…got way off track(sorry) one of the things that I want people to know is, that even though an investigation is at night, you have to go in the daylight to see what is around you.  It can be very dangerous if not done properly. The one thing I want to do is kept my followers safe the best way I can.  So lets go over a couple of safety tips before you do an investigation.
1.  ALWAYS check out the location in the daytime and preferably the day OF the investigation so that you see exactly what objects are in the area.
2.  Never go alone!  Actually this should be #1 but I am to lazy to go back and delete and paste and re-paste this tip ….lol   But really, never go alone. That way if something happens…you fall, trip or hurt yourself in someway, you will have someone there or can call 911 for you.
3. Make sure you have an alternative light source.  Say your batteries are drained and you run out of extra batteries, make sure you have either a lighter or candles, or both. Preferably a bic lighter, that way if you drop it, it won’t start a fire(hopefully).
4.  Something that people don’t always think of(myself included, I know you thought I was perfect…but no..lol) tell someone who ISN’T going on the investigation with you, where you will be and if possible, about what time you will return.
5.  And last, make sure you have a first aid kit available for small “boo boo’s”.
Ok.  That is more than a couple of tips but I wanted you guys to be safe out there.
I have posted a couple of pics below to show what a location looks like in the light and have highlighted several hazards if someone were scared, could get hurt on.
These are pics of the Manson I investigated a few weeks ago down in Galveston. Can you imagine if in the first photo, with as many people as there are, if someone had “screamed”? And not to mention it would be pitch black!
Also, there is an orb in the first pic(I just wanted to point that out).  Smile
Ok, that’s it for tonight.  Till next time my ghost hunting friends…

New Paranormal Group

Well, I don't have a lot to talk about tonight, I just wanted to drop you guys a quick message and let you know what I am up to.  I am going to start my own paranormal group in my area.  I have been working hard at reading, writing and trying to come up with the best way to go about it.  I have so many people interested in my area that I think it is time to start a local group.  I hope to call it Lake Cities Paranormal Investigations(LCPI).  I am so excitied!!!  But I want to do it right.  I want to be a trusted and respected group.  Man, I didn't know how much work would go into forming a group.  Any suggestions about what would make it work, be interesting to the investigators, and how to go about the membership.  Of course, if you are any respected paranormal investigator you know that you never charge anyone for doing an investigation.  Our goal is RESEARCH.  After I get it up and going I will post how you can start your own local group.

Hope everyone is having a great evening.  I am hoping to get to do an investigation really soon on a cemetery that has tons of activity.  I will let you know how it goes.

Ghost Hunter M2 iPhone App

Ghost Hunters Apps for Iphones and Ipad

So, I wasn't going to talk about this because I don't know how much "stock" I put in it.  But in today's world of technology I guess just about anything is possible.  So lets talk Ghost Apps for Iphones.

The other day I was just goofing off and found this app for your Iphone.  There are several apps for ghost hunting but I read and read reviews to try and find out which one was the best.  So, the one I found with the most reviews and the best reviews was the Ghost Hunter M2.  It is a little "dorky" because when you first turn it on, it plays cheesy thunder and lightening sounds...but oh well.

I think it cost $ .99  but to me it is way worth the  $.99 in entrainment.  Ok.  Here is my brief encounter with the M2 so far...

The very first day I downloaded it at work. I didn't really know how to use it.  But it looked fun and interesting.  I went home and was just sitting in the living room and decided to turn it on..  So, I turned it on and just put it on the chair and continued just to relax and watch tv.  Nothing was happening...the radar was going around and around but no "blimp" on it at all and no words where showing.  After about 30 mins all the sudden... the radar starts going off and there was a little blue light on the radar.  I thought...huummmm interesting....and then....(because it has sound) it said "Rebecca" and the word "Rebecca" shows up on the screen!!!  NO WAY!!!  Now...... I wish I could say that being a Ghost Hunter that I thought this was way cool....but the truth is...... I thought "What the ???????"  It scared the crap out of me! lol  I know, I know, I am suppose to lie and say it didn't but it DID!!!!

Now, I don't know if everyone knows this but Becky(my name) is short for Rebecca!!! Oh, NOW I have your attention....lol  I didn't really know what to do...so I did the bravest thing I could think of...........I TURNED IT OFF!!!!! How could it know my name??? It couldn't be retrieving names from your phones account because my cell phone is in Becky.  huuummm

But that's not all of it......it gets better...  So, I didn't think anything else about the app and later just went on to bed.  I'm not sure what time it was....but if I were guessing it was about 2 or 3am that morning and I was awaken by my phone going off with that "blimping" sound.  I, of course just waking up from a dead sleep was like.....what is that?????? I picked up my phone and INSTANTLY could see the M2 radar with a red dot on the radar(meaning STRONG presence). Well, I just thought...."oh that darn little app" and turned it off and went back to sleep.  Again, I was already asleep or I would have thought more of it.  Not even realizing that I had turned it off earlier that day.

For those of you who have Iphones, you know that if you have a password on your phone you can not get into your phone or your apps until you physically punch in your password and THEN you have to touch the app you want to open.....

So, the next morning I got to thinking about it, and there just is know way possible I could have picked up my phone and INSTANTLY saw that RADAR.  I would have had to enter my password and THEN go into the app itself!  And when I picked up my phone the radar was already up!!!   I don't really know what to think about this little app but when I went to Galveston to met Britt from Ghost Hunters International almost everyone there had this app.  But there where a lot of people that had never been on an investigation before so they could just be downloading anything.

I have included a link below that talks about the app and explains how to use it.  I thought it was good so I wanted to share it with you, so that it would give you a better understanding of what I was looking at and hearing.

I would love to know if anyone else has used or heard of this app.  If you have please tell me about your experience so I won't feel so crazy.

I have not used this app in a real investigation but I plan on giving it a try.  If nothing else, just to see....lol

Sorry this is sooooo long, but it is hard to write about experiences and try to give you all the details.  I will say that since then, I have just turned it on a time or two and it does through out random words.  But I guess, to me anyway, Rebecca is a pretty WEIRD word to through out there!  What do you think?
