About Me

My photo
Behind Every Cloud is a Kindred Spirit (BECKS)I lost my grandfather when I was 17. I had a VERY difficult time getting over it. How could I still communicate with him? I loved him so much I didn't think I could live without him. I read everything I could get my hands on to do with the "afterlife" and that started it all...the love of Ghost Hunting and the Paranormal. I have been researching the paranormal for over 37 years!! It is my way of staying in touch with my grandfather. Being a Ghost Hunter is not always as exciting as it seems on TV. Many nights I have sat in the dark and not a thing happened. BUT it is those times you DO get that one voice, that one explainable picture or have an experience that sends chills down your back that makes it sooo worth it all!!! My purpose of this blog is not to make people believe in ghosts but maybe to open their minds just a little bit... I LOVE this crazy thing called Ghost Hunting. It is as much a part of me as breathing. I am just a girl that refuses to accept we can't still contact our loved ones after they die. My grandfather won't let me.

LIBERTY HALL 1796- WHAT DID YOU SEE???

Senator John Brown built the hauntingly beautiful Liberty Hall in 1796.  It remained in the Brown family for generation before being willed to the Colonial Dames of America in 1955.  This home turned museum has since been a staple of Kentucky's history.  But who this the illustrious "Lady in Gray" that so many visitors to Liberty Hall have witnessed seeing?  Margaretta van Varrick, also known as Margaret, was the aunt of John Brown's wife, whose assistance was requested after a death in the family.  Sadly, only days after her arrival, Margaretta died of a heart attack.  Her remains were buried in a small family plot located on the property.  But later when the plot was relocated, Mararetta's body was lost.

Soon after, the first reports of a ghostly apparition referred to as "The Lady in Gray" began.  The first to report the sighting was Rebecca (great name don't ya think? lol), a visitor to Liberty Hall who stayed the night in Margaretta's old bedroom.  She awoke with a start to find a woman standing next to the fireplace.  She was so terrified she hid beneath her covers.  When she regained her courage, she stole a peek, but the woman was gone.  She's vanished into thin air.  Many visitors who have slept in the haunted bedroom have had similar experiences.  Other visitors to the museum have reported seeing "The Lady in Gray" peering out of the upstairs windows.  A skeptical college professor in search of an explanation for the odd occurrences stayed overnight.  To his surprise he was awakened by a gentle touch upon his shoulder and confronted by the transparent image of a woman smiling down at him.  The professor's perception of the paranormal was changed that night, by "The Lady in Gray".

MCPIKE MANSION-THE GHOSTS HERE ARE WATCHING YOUR EVERY MOVE!

What another great year at the Haunted America's Conference!!!  I met so many  wonderful people and had such a great time!!!  The speakers where great, many of which I have had as guest on my show, Bridging the Paranormal.  We investigated two places...McPike Mansion which is one of my favorites and also a new place this year....The Mineral Springs Hotel.  I just got back home last night and will be going over the evidence from both locations.

I know that most of you have read previous posts on the McPike Mansion but thought I would post some of the pictures I took this year.  We didn't have a lot of activity and I haven't had time to go over the EVP's yet but in the past I have gotten some amazing EVP's from the cellar, so hopefully I will again this year that I will share with you guys later.

But take a look at this one particular photo from the McPike Mansion.  What do you see????  I circled what appears to me as a mist and possibly an apparition...Mr. Pike...maybe standing in the door....as it looks like a three piece suit with three buttons in the front....kinda like a vest.
Without any circles or arrows.

Here is a little history about the house.  Sharyn and George Luedke are great about letting you take your time and take all the pictures and EVP's or whatever you like.

I will be posting some really cool stuff about New Orleans, the conference and the haunted locations.  I can tell you that we had one of the MOST AMAZING experiences at the Mineral Springs Hotel and I can't wait to put it all together and share it with you!!!

The house was built in 1869 by architect Lucas Pfeiffenberger.  Original owner of the Mansion was Henry Guest McPike.  The McPike family owned 15 acres of land, then known as Mount Lookout Park.  Here McPike, a horticulturist, perfected his McPike Grape.  The family lived in this, their country home, until 1936.

The house has changed hands several times since its original owner Henry McPike.  The building has been home to Browns Business College and was later owned by Paul Laichinger, who rented rooms in the house to other occupants.

The house has not been occupied since the 1950's.  Before weather and vandals brought extensive damage to the structure, it was a regal addition to the Illinois town of Alton.

The mansion featured 11 marble fireplaces and beautifully carved stairway banisters, all of which have been stolen during its abandonment. Intricate carved trim still border the ceiling in one of the front rooms.

McPike Mansion today is owned by Sharyn and George Luedke who have been trying to nurture this great house back to its regal state.  It is readily known today for its hauntings in paranormal circles. The grounds are often visited by ghost hunters and haunted tour groups in the area.

It is not uncommon to find in photos of the mansion, orbs, balls of light, even figures appearing in the windows that were not seen by the human eye when the photo was taken.

This Grand Ole House is thought to still house many of the spirits that once lived here.  Many Psychics and Mediums have felt the presence of what they believe to be McPike family, servants, as well as some of those who resided in and owned the house since 1936.

The Cellar has been a focal point of many energies felt in the mansion.

Looking in the front door.

This is in the backyard at the McPike Mansion.
They really don't know who is buried here.

The last to leave.  Nice to meet you ladies
and Sharyn thanks again for letting up stay after everyone else had gone!

ELVIS PRESLEY-AND OTHER FAMOUS SPIRITS

In honor of the death of Elvis Presley I wanted to do a re-post that I had done a couple years ago.   There are several Youtube videos on EVP's with Elvis so if you want to go there check them out.  I personally didn't find any that I thought was really that compelling.

Rest in peace Elvis until we meet again...or we talk on the spirit box! LOL

ELVIS!!! ELVIS!!! Do you think the female spirits in the afterlife were excited that Elvis Presley was coming?  And do you think the male spirits had their tongues hanging out when they figured out Marilyn Monroe was dead???  The probing question is ARE THEY STILL FAMOUS AFTER THEY DIE???  I hate to burst your bubbles...but when a famous person dies....they are just like everyone else!  Just spirits.  Spirits do not look at each other and say "hey guess who I saw today"? LOL
Do their spirits linger around the places they loved.....of course!  Just the same that any other spirit may haunt a location.....they do it because of some sort of connection.... because they loved it, they are watching over loved ones, or maybe because they left this earth so suddenly they don't even know they are dead, so they do the same things they always done...sing on stage, act in a theater, whatever it was..... they just do it.
Now, for us....the living.....sometimes I think because people soooo desperately want to see a celebrity.....even AFTER they died.....for us the living.......we still idealize that person hoping to get a glimpse of them and in some way for them to see us!  That is why I think people still gather at the places celebrities lived, hung out or was sighted STILL having that hope of seeing their superstar!  I do not think that being a celebrity makes them more or less likely to be seen than ANY other spirit. But just like in real life........sometimes it is hard for us to get over someone we loved dying.
Marilyn  The ghost of this famous Hollywood starlet has also been sighted at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel

as well as her former Brentwood home and near her tomb at Westwood Memorial Cemetery in Los Angeles, California.

Liberace Flamboyant keyboardist and entertainer, Liberace, died from complications due to Aids. His act was once very popular in Vegas. Liberace's ghost is said to still haunt a restaurant he designed, Carluccio's Tivoli Gardens Restaurant in Las Vegas.

Sorry Deak....but I couldn't resist for all
the female fans out there!

Elvis Presley The King of Rock n' Roll still haunts his former mansion, Graceland, as well as the Heartbreak Hotelacross the street from it in Memphis, Tennessee. Sightings of the late singer have also been seen by stagehands at the Las Vegas Hilton.
A recording studio in Nashville. Below are pictures I took at Elvis's birth place (little house with swing) and the first picture is the little church that he said played such an instrumental part in his music career. The rest are the inside of the house where Elvis grew up.   Thought you guys might like to see the inside.  I did not see Elvis, nor did I even catch an orb in either of these locations, BUT I can tell you.... being here you could just FEEL his  presence and that alone was enough for me.  If you ever get the chance to go to Tupelo Mississippi.  Don't pass this bye.
Just thought you might like to listen to Elvis while you read...

The cemetery where Elvis twin brother
is buried and Elvis is said to come here
a lot to talk with his brother.

Does Al Capone still roam the
halls in the Congress Hotel in Chicago.

But is "Bugsy" Siegel still haunting
the Flamingo Hilton in Las Vegas?

Listen to our EVP session we feel we had with Al Capone.

TRUE STORIES OF GHOSTS, HAUNTINGS AND SIGHTINGS OF SANTA HIMSELF DURING THE CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!!!  First, I just want to get a little "mushy" and then I want to tell you about some TRUE Christmas ghost stories!  Ok.....here comes the "mushy" part...

I wanted to take a minute and THANK ALL OF YOU who stop by and read my blog every Tuesday. You have know IDEA how much it means to me and how many times by writing my blog knowing you were depending on me..... made me smile and gave me strength when "life" was just "picking on me"(so to speak).  And for all of you who have connected with me on Facebook, it is so fun talking with you guys there.  Also, a SPECIAL THANKS to all of you who have emailed me and entrusted me by opening up yourself and sharing your paranormal experiences.  I know it is hard to share such personal things with people you don't really know and that you chose me, well....from the bottom of my heart Thank You and I am ALWAYS here if you need me!

One more thing and then I'll get to the "good stuff"...... when you are with your family and friends this Christmas....just take a moment and say a prayer for all of those who have been affected this past year by the violence of mass shootings and such terrible acts of terrorism as those in Paris and more recently in the US.  This is for my followers in France:  "  Puissent vos coeurs talon et peuvent vous sentir la chaleur de l'amour cette saison de vacances de chacun d'entre nous ici aux Etats-Unis et dans le monde. Que Dieu vous bénisse tous."  Translation: "May your hearts heel and may you feel the warmth of love this holiday season from all of us here in the US and around the world.  God Bless you all."

Ok.....now lets move on.....CHRISTMAS AND PARANORMAL phenomena have long had a close relationship. From the many miracles said to surround the birth of Jesus to the traditions of Dickens' ghosts in A Christmas Carol, it seems a time of year when the supernatural is possible. Following are just a few stories of encounters with ghosts and other strange phenomena at Christmas time -- including sightings of Santa Claus himself! What do you believe?

CHRISTMAS CHURCH GHOST

I never really believed in supernatural stuff, but this incident made me believe otherwise. This was about nine years ago in Samoa. I was playing hide-and-seek with the other little kids from my mum's village of Satua, Western Samoa. I was quite young then, so I always followed my older cousin around.

It was the middle of the night, and most of the kids were used to hiding anywhere in the dark. I wasn't used to it as I was only there for the Christmas holidays. I actually live in Australia.
Anyway, we all went to hide. Since we were all hiding in the graveyard, we all found our way around in the light that the church cast onto the graveyard. We all hid in the shadows and waited for the boy. We could all hear the boy coming, so we kept quiet. The boy was pretty loud, so we watched what he was making a fuss about. He had walked into the church as he thought that his brother was hiding there.
As he walked into the church, he later told us, he saw a boy standing right at the front of the altar.
He didn't know if it was his brother because the boy's back was turned. He ran up and tapped this boy on the shoulder. As soon as he did this, the strange boy disappeared! Our friend fainted!
We went home to tell his parents and we returned with the boy's parents to find him still lying there, dead still.
The parents took the boy home and we never played in the graveyard at night again. We later found out that the boy's brother had been at home the whole time and he hadn't been to the church at all! What really scared us was that the boy who fainted has been ill since that night and he still hasn't recovered to this day. Whoever it was in the church must have been pretty mad that we kids had disturbed him!-- Paulina T.

CHRISTMAS GHOST'S CARESS

It was Christmas time of 1995 or '96 at my aunt's house on a reservation in North Dakota. Some of my family was in the living room watching television, the kids were playing in the rooms or sleeping, and my uncle, aunt and I were sitting at the table putting a puzzle together. My cousin, who worked at a casino, would come home around midnight or 1 a.m.

This night, as she pulled up and was walking toward the house, she looked in the window and saw me sitting at the table, my uncle sitting across from me and someone standing to the left of me and someone standing in the corner, so she continued to walk in the house thinking nothing of it.
When she got in she said her hellos, put her stuff away and came and joined us at the table.
As we were sitting there talking, she looked at me and asked who was standing next to me a few minutes ago and who was in the corner. I told her no one and she said, "Yeah, there was someone standing next to you.

It looked like your mom and she was playing with your hair." (I have long hair, which I used to wear down all the time.) She said this person was running her hand on my hair, like a mother does to a child.

It kinda freaked me out, being I was probably only 12 or 13 at the time. My cousin swears up and down that someone was standing over me rubbing my head and watching me put the puzzle together with my aunt and uncle, and that there was another person standing behind this person. We got around to thinking it was probably her mom she saw. (She passed away on her birthday a week before Christmas back in 1992.)

In my family we consider our aunts and uncles to be just like our moms and dads. After thinking that it could have been her, it didn't scare me so much.  However, we couldn't figure out who the person was standing in the corner. And always around Christmas time something strange always happens... and we just think it's her visiting us.-- V. Page

SANTA STUFFS THE STOCKINGS

When I was nine years old (I am 30 now), I could not get too sleep on Christmas Eve because I was excited about presents and wondered if my parents had anything to do with the gifts that I received from Santa the year before.

That night it was hot because the heater was on (I lived in Texas), so I got thirsty. Also, I was wanting to spy. I got out of bed and cracked open my door to make sure no one was out in the living room, so that way I could get something to drink.

When I opened the door, I saw someone bent over, then he stood up.It was Santa Claus, dressed in the red and white get-up! Something strange was that I could see the Christmas lights from the tree shining through him. He was taking the stockings down off the mantel and placing them on the coffee table. When he started to turn around to put the next stocking on the table, I closed the door and jumped into bed.

The next morning I woke up and told my sister what I had seen. I told her where he had put the stockings. When we went into the living room, the stockings were where I said he had put them. We both turned and looked at each other and froze for a moment. From then on, I have told everyone that I believe in Santa! -- Misty G.

SANTA AT THE BEDROOM DOOR

It was 1961 on Christmas Eve. We were living in Boardman, Ohio. My bedroom was at the end of the house. I went to sleep on Christmas Eve. I don't know what time it was, but I know it was very late when I suddenly woke up. I was staring at my bedroom door, which was cater-corner from my bed. The door slowly opened, and I squinted my eyes shut just a bit because I didn't want my mother or father to catch me up in the middle of the night. There was a nightlight in the hallway and one behind the dresser in my room, so there was some light.

I was so astonished, however, at who opened the bedroom door. I found myself looking at a man dressed in a red suit. He had white trim around his waist, like fur, a long white beard, and was wearing a Santa hat. He had red pants and black boots. If I close my eyes, I can still see Santa standing in my door, it made such an impression on me.

He stood there and looked at me for a few seconds, then closed the door. I pulled the blankets over my head for a while - I was so scared! Finally, I looked out, but no one was there. The next day, I asked my mother if she or my father had been out of bed the previous night. My mother said no; in fact, my sister was only four months old, and my mother said she had slept through the night for the first time, and neither of my parents had gotten up, they were tired and they both slept.

So I don't know who or what looked in my bedroom that night. I told my mother I saw Santa, and she got really mad at me and told me that I did not. But I know what I saw... it was Santa Claus. And I swear this story did happen! I know I wasn't dreaming. -- Karrie K

And to all a good night.....

MERCY BROWN, THE RHODE ISLAND VAMPIRE-IS SHE LOOKING FOR HER HEART THAT WAS CUT FROM HER BODY AND BURNED OR HER NEXT TASTE OF BLOOD???

Vampires?  They bite you on the neck...... they suck all the blood out of you .........and then  they turn into bats and fly off into the night.  Nothing to major.  Right?  Do they even exist??? Listen….I believe that spirits can fly all around us and through walls and move things…..so who am I to judge. J
The cases of Vampires all over the world before, during and after “Dracula” both seduces and frightened u but the case of Mercy Brown, the Rhode Island Vampire now here's a FRIGHTENING story!!!!

Mercy Brown has the distinction of being the last of the North American vampires-at least in the traditional sense.  Mercy Lena Brown was a farmer’s daughter and an upstanding member of rural Exeter, Rhode Island.  On March 17, 1892, Mercy’s body was exhumed from the cemetery because members of the community suspected the vampire Mercy Brown was attacking her dying brother, Edwin.

The Brown family had tragic loss after loss.  Consumption (known to us today as pulmonary tuberculosis) took its first victim from the Brown family in Dec. 1883 when it took Mercy’s mother, Mary Brown.  Seven months later, the Brown’s eldest daughter, Mary Olive, also died of consumption.  The Brown’s only son, Edwin contracted the disease and was sent away for treatment.  But the treatment could not help Edwin as he continued to get worse, so he returned home to die.  Mercy by this time had contracted the disease as well and shortly died after Edwin returned.   Her grave is located in Exeter, Rhode Island Historical Cemetery Number 22 behind the Chestnut Hill Baptist Church.

George Brown began to panic!  He had lost his wife, two daughters and now his only son. The doctors back then had no explanation for what had taken the lives of his family.  Rumors of vampires in this area were commonly talked about back in the 1800’s.  George felt his family was cursed.  He was willing to do ANYTHING to stop the evil that was plaguing his family.  He WAS EVEN willing to dig up the body of his deceased daughter, remove her heart, burn it, and feed the ashes to his son because he felt he had no other choice. YUCK!!! YUCK!!! YUCK!!!! (Sorry, but that is YUCKY)

Folklore says that after that….Mercy turned over in her grave!!!  There’s a newspaper report that says she wasn’t actually interred in the ground.   She was actually buried in an above-ground crypt, because bodies were stored in the wintertime when the ground was frozen and they couldn’t really dig a hole.  When the spring came, they would bury them then.
Because of the questions concerning Mercy’s body, they had her body examined.  The report stated that “her heart and liver had blood in it.  And it was LIQUID blood which meant to them that is was FRESH”!
Even though Mr. Brown believed that “cutting out the heart of a vampire, burning it and feeding it to a victim, would kill the vampire and the victim would have the curse of the vampire broken and would heal, Mr. Brown’s son still died a couple months later.
Today some claim to see Mercy Brown’s spirit near her headstone.  Others have also spotted a glowing ball of light above her grave.  Is Mercy looking for her HEART or her next “taste of BLOOD”?????
I would LOVE to know if anyone else have heard about Mercy or has visited her grave.  :)

WHERE DID THIS CEMETERY COME FROM???

                                                          BUCKNER CEMETERY
                                                             McKinney, Texas

Who knew?  Deak and I were out driving around this past Sunday and we stopped at Garden Center just off Hwy 380 just before you get into McKinney, Texas.  Now, the Garden Center was closed so we just parked the car and was walking around looking at their trees and plants they had for sale.  There is nothing but concrete around and behind the Garden Center because McKinney has a big Trade Days open to the public every 3rd Monday and this Garden Center is located right in front of the Trades Day lots.

So, we walk toward the back of the lot and MUCH TO MY SURPRISE what do you think I see......right in the middle of this parking lot there is a cemetery!!!!   HOLY COW!!!!  Who would ever guess there would be a cemetery right in the middle of this big parking lot!!!!  It is the strangest thing to see a cemetery with just a few graves in it, a couple of trees and a small fence around it.  Now is it haunted???  I don't know.... but you can bet I will find out!  It just sits there minding its own business with a few trees around it, like ...this is my place and I am NOT moving know matter what is around me, I was here first!!! LOL   And I have to tell you...it was a little sad to me to think that soooo many people visit this area every month and know one takes care of the cemetery.  The stones are all broken.  Some have been laid against trees but most are just laying on the ground.  You can tell, it needs a lot of TLC.

Now, this looks like an old map to me but
I tried to circle where the cemetery is.  But now,
when we were there, it seems that the Trades Day
has expanded the area and is all back behind the cemetery now.
You can clearly see concrete surrounding the cemetery.

So, what do you think the FIRST thing I did was when I got home???? You guessed it!!! I was on the internet looking up any and everything to do with Buckner Cemetery.

Now, I will say I couldn't find a lot on it, but the things I did find out, were VERY interesting.  Now, here's what I do know in summary...

Buckner was the first town in Collin County. It was named by John McGarrah for his home town of Buckner, Arkansas. When Collin County was formed in 1846 by the state of Texas, the residents were told to pick a county seat within 3 miles of the geographic center of the county and name it "Buckner." The residents picked the existing town of Buckner because it was the only town in the county. However, it was 7 miles from the center of the county. The exact center of the county is on the East Fork flood plain. Two sites were picked for the county seat. Eleven residents voted on the location of the county seat with 10 picking the present-day McKinney square location. They tried to name the county seat Buckner as instructed, but the post office said the name "Buckner" was already in use. The residents named the county seat "McKinney" after the man who was in the state legislature from this area, Collin McKinney. The stores in Buckner were literally dragged to the square in McKinney and the town of Buckner disappeared. There was a Kiowa Indian tribe that lived near Buckner. It was led by a chief named Spotted Tail. As long as the Kiowas lived there, no other Indians attacked the area.

The ancient McGarrah-O’Brien Cemetery is slightly Northeast of the site of Old Ft. Buckner, the first County Seat of Collin County, and is a part of John McGarrah’s headright. According to the Peters Colony book, “John McGarrah, a family man, came to Peters Colony in 1842 and claimed his headright of 640 acres. His patent was number 981.” He built a little store or trading post, primarily to trade with the Indians who brought in furs to trade for goods he sold in the little store. He is listed in the 1850 census of Collin County as a family man, age 45 and came to the area from Fayetteville, Arkansas, where the family migrated in 1821.

Only a few headstones remain in the old cemetery, but according to J. B. Wilmeth who was an elected official at the first election in 1846, it once had a large number of graves marked with Bois d’Arc slabs. (I know, I didn't know what Bois d' Arc slabs were either.  It is a type of wood that was very resilient to weather conditions.  It was often used as a marker for a grave and sometimes could even be carved into different shapes).

Those listed as buried there include:
Edna Fallis, wife of B. J. O’Brien, 1816 - 1897
Jane, wife of George W. O’Brien, Jan. 27, 1905 - Dec. 17, 1871
David O’Brien, March 4, 1808 - Nov. 1, 1885
Parmelia, wife of David O’Brien, June 27, 1823 - July 12, 1870
Franklin, son of David and Parmelia, July 23, 1853 - July 12, 1870
George W. O’Brien, Dec. 8, 1799 - June 30, 1876
Lorenzo J. Graves, 1818 - 1886
Reily, son of T. F. and A. F. Darnell, 1829 - 1880
Laurence, son of A. G. and N. J. Donaldson, 1879 - 1899
Mary Jane Donaldson, 1854 - 1886
Polly T. Graves, Sept. 22, 1822 - July 31, 1898
Then, too, the old Indian who lived with his small tribe near Buckner and is credited with saving the settlement from invasion of Comanche tribes is buried in an unmarked Christian grave at his own request (Kiowa chief, Spotted Tail). Chief Spotted Tail  has been called a hero because he helped bury people in the middle of the night so others would not have to who died in a smallpox epidemic in 1873. He died from smallpox himself  shortly after and was buried at the Buckner cemetery. He was given a white man's burial.

You can bet there will be a PART 2 to this story.  I will let you know what I find out about if it is haunted or not after I do an investigation.  CAN'T WAIT!!!!!

I think this may be the Bois d' Arc Slabs.
