About Me

My photo
Behind Every Cloud is a Kindred Spirit (BECKS)I lost my grandfather when I was 17. I had a VERY difficult time getting over it. How could I still communicate with him? I loved him so much I didn't think I could live without him. I read everything I could get my hands on to do with the "afterlife" and that started it all...the love of Ghost Hunting and the Paranormal. I have been researching the paranormal for over 37 years!! It is my way of staying in touch with my grandfather. Being a Ghost Hunter is not always as exciting as it seems on TV. Many nights I have sat in the dark and not a thing happened. BUT it is those times you DO get that one voice, that one explainable picture or have an experience that sends chills down your back that makes it sooo worth it all!!! My purpose of this blog is not to make people believe in ghosts but maybe to open their minds just a little bit... I LOVE this crazy thing called Ghost Hunting. It is as much a part of me as breathing. I am just a girl that refuses to accept we can't still contact our loved ones after they die. My grandfather won't let me.

MASS MURDER OF 11 FAMILY MEMBERS ON EASTER SUNDAY IN 1975-CHILDREN WAITING ON THE EASTER BUNNY-WHY???

 HAPPY EASTER EVERYBODY!!!

On Easter Sunday, we (my family) do what millions of other people do on Easter.  We color the eggs the night before and make a BIG mess in the process....we get dye on our clothes, dye on the table and chairs and yes sometimes we stick the tip of our fingers in the dye to see if we can dye each finger a different color (ok, I know all families don't do that, but hey...what the heck...it's fun!  Not so fun to get off though. lol). Then Easter morning, we go to church, come home and put on our "comfy" clothes,  have a nice lunch and then it's EGG HUNTING TIME!!!!! The adults hide a THOUSAND eggs and the kids grab their baskets just waiting to hear that one little word.....GO!!!!!!!!!

On Easter Monday, March 31, 1975 the Ruppert family was doing just the same thing.  The family gathered together to enjoy a beautiful Easter day.  But this would be an Easter that the entire country would NEVER FORGET!

James Ruppert, then 41, shot 11 members of his family, including his mother, Charity; his brother, Leonard Jr.; his sister-in-law, Alma; and their eight children — Leonard III, 17; Michael, 16; Thomas, 15; Carol, 13; Ann, 12; David, 11; Teresa, 9; and John, 4 — in his mother’s home on 635 Minor Avenue in Lindenwald. Ruppert was convicted of two counts of murder and received a verdict of not guilty by reason of insanity for the other nine killings. He was sentenced to 11 life sentences, and is currently in the Allen Correctional Institute in Lima.

James Ruppert's early life was troubled. His mother Charity said that she would have rather had a daughter, and his father Leonard had a violent temper and little affection for his two sons. Leonard died in 1947 when James and his brother Leonard Jr. were 12 and 14, respectively.
Leonard Jr. became the father figure of the family and constantly picked on James during their upbringing. At 16, James was so dissatisfied with his home life that he ran away and attempted to commit suicide by hanging himself with a sheet. He was unsuccessful and returned home.

At the age of 41 James had moved back in with his 65-year-old mother Charity Ruppert in Hamilton, Ohio. Charity was frustrated with her son's inability to hold a steady job and his constant drinking; she threatened to evict him. James also owed his mother and brother money, having lost what little he had in the stock market crash of 1973-4.

On Easter Sunday, the eight children of James' older brother Leonard, were enjoying an Easter egg hunt in the front yard, while the adults were making lunch in the kitchen. At 4:00PM James woke from his hangover, loaded a .357 magnum, two .22 caliber handguns and a rifle. He killed his brother, sister-in-law/ex-girlfriend, and mother. Then he killed his nephew David, and nieces Teresa and Carol in the kitchen. He then went to the living room and killed his niece Ann and four nephews, Leonard, Michael, Thomas and John.

He killed his victims by shooting them with a disabling shot and finishing them off with a shot to the head or through the heart. The whole massacre took 5 minutes. James sat in the house for three hours before calling the police. County prosecutor John Holcomb viewed the crime scene and stated that there was so much blood on the first floor, it was dripping through the floorboards into the basement, which to this day can still be seen on the wood. A total of 35 shots had been fired by Ruppert and all 4 weapons were recovered at the scene.

The night before the murders James went out as he did nearly every night. At the 19th Hole Cocktail Lounge he talked with employee Wanda Bishop, a 28-year-old mother of 5. She would later state that James told her he was frustrated with his mother's demands on him and his impending eviction and that he needed to solve the problem. He left the bar at 11:00 PM that night and later returned. When Bishop asked him if he had solved the problem, he replied "No, not yet." James stayed at the bar until it closed at 2:30 AM.

James reportedly told authorities who arrived on scene: "My mother drove me crazy by always combing my hair, talked to me like I was a baby, and tried to make me into a homosexual". As for motive, it was believed James was looking for an inheritance of $300,000. He would plead insanity, then become "cured" after getting a "Not Guilty" verdict, with all that cash just waiting for him. Unfortunately for James, it didn't turn out that way.

All contents of the home were auctioned off a year later. The first family to live in the house after the murders were unaware of the crime that had taken place. They sold the house after hearing voices and other unexplained noises. Over the years other families have moved in and out.

Even though this weeks post was sad, I hope you can now put it behind you and go and have a wonderful EASTER!!!

CAN A SPIRIT FOLLOW YOU HOME- RE-POST

Hi everyone....so here's the question.....Can ghosts follow you home?  I could "dance around" the answer... but let me be blunt.  The answer is YES.  It is not common, but it CAN happen.  Now, with that being said lets talk about it.

There are reports of individuals having a particular ghost or spirit follow them home.  Some ghosts and spirits can attach themselves to objects, individuals, and or families.  Some people have reported taking something from a site that is said to be haunted....lets say something as simple as a stone from a building and suddenly finding that they have "bad luck" or unusual "things" just start happening.  Coincidence?  Maybe or maybe not.  Some people report purchasing an antique that has a ghost attached to it and it follows them home.  A ghost is not bound to a certain location, only drawn there because it was of significance to them when they were living.

I believe that sometimes ghosts or spirits will attach themselves to a person or family because they have been angered in some way..... but I also believe that sometimes a ghost or spirit may follow you home because they like you.  Sounds crazy? Well, think about it.  Do you want to be around people that are nice to you?  I think it is the same for spirits.  Lets say you have a location that is said to be haunted by a little girl.  Parents died tragically and she was left all alone and eventually dies herself.  You may have "people" that want to come investigate for the sheer purpose of making fun of ghosts or spirits.....then you have someone "like you and I, the GOOD ghost hunters" (LOL) that truly care about what happened to the souls.  So, what do we do....we talk as if we were talking to a child (no tauting) and we offer candy or we bring toys with us for the spirit to play with.  This little lost soul  has been lonely for so long and now someone wants to talk to her and play, she doesn't want you to leave.  So, she "attaches" herself and follows you home where she can be with you.  So, there you go....instant daughter! LOL  Also, beware of buying "used" objects as the same principle may apply.  Except, they may love the OBJECT and NOT you.

I get asked all the time, has you ever experienced someone or something following you home?  The answer is YES!!!!  Do I think it was a malevolent spirit?  No.  The things I was experienced did not make me feel threatened but more like....HEY PAY ATTENTION TO ME......I'M HERE!!!  I give ghost tours down at a haunted bridge (Goatmans Bridge, Denton, Tx) and I communicate with a young 14 year old girl named Rebecca that died back in the mid 1800's.  First, we have the same name so I think she relates to that.  Second, I speak to her very respectful and tell her how happy I am to talk with her every time.

What was I experiencing?  Well, for starters, EVERY SINGLE NIGHT FOR TWO WEEKS SOILD my tv would come on at 3am and the volume would be full blast and it would be all "staticy"!!!  And anyone that is connected to cable knows when your cable goes out there is nothing on the tv but a blue screen.  Every night I would get up and turn it off.  At first, I thought it was something going wrong with the tv or the cable.  I called and ask everyone what would cause that and everyone would tell me the same thing....It should NOT be doing that if it was going out.   Finally, I unplugged the tv thinking that would do the trick.....NOPE.....still came on by itself full blast!!!  Finally, one night when I couldn't take it anymore....I STOOD MY GROUND.....I turned it off after coming on at 3am and said out loud "OK.  I know you are here.  But this is MY house and I'm not moving.  So here is the deal.....You can stay BUT I don't want you to turn the tv on again.  And if you do, I will just get up and turn it off every time!  So we can live here together but you can not turn on the tv."  I swear....it has NEVER done it again.

Not only that...but the water in both the bathrooms would come on full blast by themselves, things would move from one place to another by themselves, alarms and other things would go off that shouldn't be going off and that had no batteries in them.  I really think it was Rebecca.  So I smudged the house and ask her to go back to the bridge and wait for me there.  And the activity stopped.

Now, this doesn't mean ghosts are just waiting to hitch-a-ride home with you, so don't start to worry yet.  But sometimes, you may "invite" them in by accident....say by using a Ouija Board.  You may be trying to contact  your departed loved one but that may NOT be who comes through.  If SOMEONE else decidesd it likes, or can manipulate you , it may just stay.....and LETS BE CLEAR...the spirit that decides it wants to stay from a Ouija Board may not be very nice at all.  So, this is nothing to play around with, so if you ARE going to use a Ouija Board be sure and take measures to protect yourself.  And just for the record, I NEVER AND WILL NEVER USE A OUIJA BOARD!!!
This is an old cemetery in Walnut Bend, Tx
An abandon cemetery with almost all children.
Look at the difference between the first and second
picture.  The second one is when we started talking
to the children and asking them if they want to play?

This was many years back, I took a group
of girls for a birthday party.  At first, they
were scared to death!!!  But then they
relaxed and I think the "children" really liked it.
Looks like "the children" didn't want
the girls to go!
Lets talk about how to protect yourself from a spirit (good or bad) from attaching itself to you and following you home. Before and after you enter a location that you feel is haunted, say a prayer telling the spirits they are not allowed, or welcome to follow any of you home.  This is a command!   I take this very seriously, as we all have families, and friends that do not want a ghost to follow them home.  I believe you will start to see this more and more on all the TV Paranormal shows.  This protection prayer.

The metaphysical dangers of an investigation are real and should be taken seriously.  If it were only the physical and emotional thing to worry about, then this field of study could be done by almost anyone....but that's not the case.  Sometimes things we are looking for are there, and more often than not these things can and do follow us home at the end of the night.  This is where the dangers come in.

I believe it is my duty to tell you while ghost hunting can be very exciting, scary, and mind blowing, there are dangers.  Yes, anyone can grab a recorder, ask a question and get a response.  And yes, if you do not know how to protect yourself, anyone can have their lives turned upside down by unseen forces. I cannot express enough how important it is, if you want to become an investigator or you want to get involved in the paranormal, that you go with a team that has years of experience and is fully aware of the dangers out there and how to conduct themselves professionally and, most of all, safely.

So, is it possible for a ghost to follow you home? Yes.  But it is rare.  Do I want you to stop investigating because of the chance that someone or something will follow me home...NO.  Just take precautions and you should be fine.

Now, enough with all the serious stuff.  For myself, personally, ghost hunting is one of the most rewarding and fun things I do.  I love it with all my heart and will continue to research and look for answers in the field of paranormal. I look at it like a "sport" kinda........playing professional football lets say..... you have to watch out for the big, bad, muscle guy that is going to nail you on the field possibility breaking your bones.  Well, when you ghost hunt you have to watch out for the "dead people"......the ones that like to play tricks on you or the ones that really want to cause harm.  Oh well....I'm still "IN"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have a great week everyone and of course, I would love your feedback.  And if you have had an experience with a spirit following you home, I would love to hear your story and if you willing possibly have you on my radio show Bridging the Paranormal to discuss your experience.  Feel free to email me at becksghosthunters@yahoo.com.

Have a great week everyone!

ANASTASIA ISLAND GHOSTS-THE CHILDREN NEVER SLEEP

St. Augustine, Florida, has backed up quite an inventory of spooky sights since it was founded in 1565(man that is a longggggg time ago); and those who dare to enter in the lighthouse on Anastasia Island rarely return.  Having been featured in several paranormal TV documentaries, it might even "outshine" all the other ghostly places in the ancient city.  Built in 1874 directly across Matanzas Bay from the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument, this lighthouse is the last in a line of light towers dating back to the 1500's and it's also the domain of a portal to the afterlife.  No wonder St. Augustine is crawling with ghosts!

The 165-foot-tall lighthouse is believed to harbor numerous souls-mostly of lives that ended within the tower or somewhere on the grounds.  There are many contrived ghost stories concerning the lighthouse, among them a tale about thirteen pirates who were executed and buried on the grounds, as well as the story of a former lighthouse "owner" who remains earthbound to revenge himself on the government, which confiscated his property under eminent domain (that means they can take his land if they want to).  Albeit intriguing, none of these yarns have any historical basis, so lets stick with the haunting facts.

The most frequently seen phantom-usually observed on the tower's catwalk is of a little girl who wears a blue dress and a bow in her hair.  People have also been unnerved by the laughter of children late at night.  Investigating mediums attribute these phenomena to three young girls.  Records indicate that when the lighthouse was being built, construction supervisor Hezekiah Pittee resided on the site with his wife and five children.  On July 10th, 1873 while playing with a handcart on a track used for hauling building supplies, two of the Pittee children and a playmate were drowned when the cart ran off the rails and into the bay.

The lighthouse is also known for its cigar smoking ghost, which some believe is an earthbound soul named  Peter Pasmussen, a former keeper remembered for being very fussy when it came to managing the lighthouse.  Although Rasmussen has never been seen, visitors often report smelling cigar smoke in the old fuel house and basement.

Historical records indicate that several people died at or near the lighthouse, including lighthouse keeper William Harn in 1889, and the wife of another location of the present structure-one in 1853, when keeper John Carrera fell from the tower, and the other in 1859, when Joseph Andreu fell while painting the lighthouse.

Perhaps one of these departed souls is the shadowy figure seen roaming the grounds or on the tower's spiral staircase, where TAPS filmed an indisputable moving human figure that mysteriously vanished as they hastily pursued him to the top.  In lighthouses, the stairs are the only way up and down.  Did he jump to his death, or vanish through a portal into the ethereal world?  The St, Augustine Lighthouse and Museum offers you a chance to reflect on this conundrum on its Dark of the Moon after-hours paranormal tour.

Looks like I see a Lighthouse investigation in my future.... :)

Haunting at the Inn?

Grand Union Hotel
Over the years, tales of friendly and mischievous ghosts said to frequent the Inn have stimulated the imagination and interest of visitors. Skeptics tend to ignore the idea as superstitious stories.

Folklore, legends, stories, all have the same meaning. However here at the Inn many try to prove the existence of ghosts residing at the Inn. There has been suspected of three separate entities that haunt the Inn. Also since the devastating fire, new strange occurrences now exist.
As with any old building or family heirloom, many stories of good and bad times can be associated with them. Hauntings of course are more interesting because they almost always are linked to story of great pain, anguish, or death.

Pierre

Pierre is the most famous lingering soul thought to be haunting the Inn. His presence on the second floor has been felt by two known specialists in paranormal activity.
His "existence" was discovered in the late 1960s when a famed psychic named Sybil Leek was invited to visit the Inn. Upon touring the building, she claimed she felt the presence of a ghost and said that a burly bearded mountain man of about 35 years of age told her he had been shot while on the second floor of the Inn. He claimed his name was Pierre Devon or Duval.
Pierre Devon's ChapsNoted California Ghost researcher, Richard Senate was the second to confirm the existence of Pierre.
While he knew of the findings of Sybil Leek, his investigations did not occur until years later, after the fire and rebuilding of the Inn.
His accounts were of strong disturbances within the room Pierre was reportedly shot, and cold spots in the stairway.
Mr. Senate was there to investigate a claim of a ghost and he was elated to find out it was true. However, many still wonder how the ghost could remain after the original building had been moved, and then destroyed by fire.
Was Pierre a real person? Did he die in the old Inn? Is he still there? All questions that were never answered with viable documentation. However, the believers still believe Pierre is there, and he is not going anywhere anytime soon.
Within the pictures taken during the fire of 1970, it is said you can see ghostly image of Pierre rising from the flames.

The Haunting Lady of the Inn

The apparition of a woman of days past, dressed in elegant gowns, can be seen from the corner of your eye before dissolving into thin air. The only trace of her brief appearance is the soft scent of her perfume wafting through the halls.
Stagecoach Inn Staircase

These occurrences were very common during the renovation of the Inn from 1953 thru 1965 when the building accommodated an exclusive gift shop known as Tantony. It is claimed that lingering spirits are known to be more active during major changes to the place they reside.
Psychics have felt cold spots in the stairway of the Inn...Is it her?
Whether the Lady of the Inn survived the Fire of 1970 is still not known.

The Lost Little Boy

During the 1890's there is said to be the tale of a young visitor of the Inn whom wandered into the wilderness and was never seen again.
At the Inn the sound of a young boys voice is said to be heard calling for his family as he continues to try to be reunited with them.

The Baby Cradle

Haunted Baby CradleOn exhibit in the Museum is a cradle with an interesting story.
After the Inn was reconstructed, due to the devastating fire of 1970, curators requested donations from the public to help replenish the furnishings. A woman called to donate a family heirloom which she felt would fit into the decor of the Inn perfectly.
The cradle had been in her family for many generations, and since she was expecting a child, she had received it as a gift.

One day her baby, sleeping in the cradle, starting crying. As she returned to the room to attend the infant she noticed an apparition next to the cradle rocking it gently back and forth. Not knowing whether her child was in danger, obviously frightened for her child's welfare, she donated the cradle to the Stagecoach Inn.

RE-POST- MCPIKE MANSION-THESE SPIRITS LOVE TO BE SEEN!!! DARK PAST, CREEPY FUTURE

This is McPike Mansion in Alton, Il.  I had a great time here.  For a small town, it is covered with haunted history.  So much to do here.

Now, here's my story.  I went up to Alton, Il for one of the annual American Ghost Society's Conference.  I registered late, and therefore, missing out on an investigation of the famous "McPikes" mansion.  I was soooooo bummed!!!  So, on my way to the airport, returning from my trip, I was talking to the cab driver.  He asked me if I got to do everything I wanted and I said "no".  I missed out on an investigation on the old McPikes Mansion.  He said, no problem.  I know where it is, if you would like to go there before catching your flight.  ARE YOU KIDDING!!!!! YESSSS I would love to go there.

So, off we went. After a short drive, he pulled up in the driveway of the McPikes Mansion.  No one was there because it is abandoned and most people go at night.  I got out of the cab and walked just a little ways up in the front yard, because there are NO TRESPASSING signs posted everywhere. I just kinda walked around the front yard taking pictures.  I got back in the cab just feeling awesome that I got to at lease see the outside of the mansion.  Of course, that cab driver got a GREAT tip!!!!!

When I got home I downloaded my pics and my last pics were of the mansion.  My first thought was, wow what a beautiful old mansion and what it must have been like to live here.  THEN.... I looked at my pictures and little closer and couldn't believe my eyes!  I believe there are two people, well one man and a young girl in the window on the second floor.  I could see them clearly!!!  I was sooo excited!!!

If you look close, (may have to enlarge) you can see a little girl's face and to me, appears to be screaming... or with her mouth open.  And right behind her, standing up, looks like a man, maybe with a beard, one of those that goes around the sides of a mans face up to his sideburns.  I don't know.  What do you think?  Mr. McPike or another resident ghost?

I have included below some information about the McPikes Mansion.  And a video of one of the best EVP's I have ever heard!!! Get ready to feel that "chill run down your back" as you can plainly hear in the CREEPIEST voice ever say the word HENRY after the guy ask "what is your name?".  Don't miss it.

The house was built in 1869 by architect Lucas Pfeiffenberger.  Original owner of the Mansion was Henry Guest McPike.  The McPike family owned 15 acres of land, then known as Mount Lookout Park.  Here McPike, a horticulturist, perfected his McPike Grape.  The family lived in this, their country home, until 1936.

The house has changed hands several times since its original owner Henry McPike.  The building has been home to Browns Business College and was later owned by Paul Laichinger, who rented rooms in the house to other occupants.  The house has not been occupied since the 1950's.  Before weather and vandals brought extensive damage to the structure, it was a regal addition to the Illinois town of Alton.  There is even two small tombstones that are located at the back of the house .  Who they belong to or who may call them "home" is unknown.

The mansion featured 11 marble fireplaces and beautifully carved stairway banisters, all of which have been stolen during its abandonment. Intricate carved trim still border the ceiling in one of the front rooms.  McPike Mansion today is owned by Sharyn and George Luedke who have been trying to nurture this great house back to its regal state.  It is readily known today for its hauntings in paranormal circles. The grounds are often visited by ghost hunters and haunted tour groups in the area.  It is not uncommon to find in photos of the mansion, orbs, balls of light, even figures appearing in the windows that were not seen by the human eye when the photo was taken.

This Grand Ole House is thought to still house many of the spirits that once lived here.  Many Psychics and Mediums have felt the presence of what they believe to be McPike family, servants, as well as some of those who resided in and owned the house since 1936.

Can't wait to get back and write about this next trip!!!!

NEED A REST? THIS ROADSIDE PARK COMES WITH A CEMETERY AND A HAUNTED SCHOOL.

If you are ever up in Arkansas around the Fayetteville area, driving on the curvy roads that leave you breathless to the mountains beauty you may want to take a break at this roadside park.  But be WARNED.....you may THINK you are ALONE.....but your NOT!!!

Oh no...this roadside park comes complete with a cemetery and an hundred year old school.  You may think you are going to rest but the spirits there may have different ideas!

At this roadside park otherwise known as The Witter Cemetery....the trees are very old and very tall and have beautiful overhanging limbs.   The green grass is kept well and it is obvious that this is a special place to someone or to many that keep it up.  There is a small white school that sits just ever so quietly in front of the cemetery as not to disturb those who may be resting.   And guess what?  They have "guard dogs".......LOL  I wouldn't make ANY SUDDEN movements!

Once you step out of the car you feel an instant, peaceful feeling come over you here!!  With the trees that shade you from the sun, and the cute little benches beneath them....have a seat.........relax...........enjoy all this........... as the "guard dogs" get up ever soooooooooo slowwwwwwllllyyyyyy.....to come great you with a nice, wet kiss!!!!

The sign on the school house reads:
I could find out very little about this place.  The schoolhouse itself could be a hundred to a hundred and twenty years old.  From what I can tell...there really isn't much on The Witter Cemetery.
Here are some photos I took with my phone camera....because you know.....when you see a roadside park area you don't expect to see a CEMETERY and a hundred year old SCHOOL sitting there so you don't have your BEST equipment at hand.

Now, all of this sounds very peaceful......very nice.......and you really wouldn't expect to run into a spirit here right???  Ok.......other than the fact that there is a cemetery right there......... LOL

My Dad and I got out to walk around and check the place out.  He was walking the dog(Chrissie) letting her go potty.  I was walking around by the cemetery just taking pictures...of course the ghost hunter coming out in me....even here.  Well, I saw the cutest little grave with a bear on the top.

The name on this cute little bear is Glenda Lee Ogden.

Well, I like I always do when I'm in a cemetery, I start talking out loud saying "Hi Glenda.  My name is Becky and guess what?  We have the same middle name.  Isn't that cool?". I know...I know....she is probably thinking "COOL?  What the heck does that mean????"  Ok....let me get back to the good stuff ................I could hardly believe it on the car ride home I was looking at the pictures and listening to the recorder I had also turned on .  You can hear a sweet little female voice say, "I can see you".  Now, I don't know if she was talking to me or maybe she was referring to my dad because he has the dog maybe she liked it.  I don't know, but this was a GREAT little surprise from whom I can only assume is GLENDA. :)

I wish I could tell you more about this wonderful little place, but for sure......if you're ever feeling tired and need a place to pull over and rest........THIS IS IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
