About Me

My photo
Behind Every Cloud is a Kindred Spirit (BECKS)I lost my grandfather when I was 17. I had a VERY difficult time getting over it. How could I still communicate with him? I loved him so much I didn't think I could live without him. I read everything I could get my hands on to do with the "afterlife" and that started it all...the love of Ghost Hunting and the Paranormal. I have been researching the paranormal for over 37 years!! It is my way of staying in touch with my grandfather. Being a Ghost Hunter is not always as exciting as it seems on TV. Many nights I have sat in the dark and not a thing happened. BUT it is those times you DO get that one voice, that one explainable picture or have an experience that sends chills down your back that makes it sooo worth it all!!! My purpose of this blog is not to make people believe in ghosts but maybe to open their minds just a little bit... I LOVE this crazy thing called Ghost Hunting. It is as much a part of me as breathing. I am just a girl that refuses to accept we can't still contact our loved ones after they die. My grandfather won't let me.

ALL GOOD DOGS GO TO HEAVEN. RIGHT? ARE DO THEY STAY BEHIND AFTER DEATH AS A LOYAL COMPANION?

You think you feel something at the foot of your bed.  You feel something snuggling against your leg.  What is going on?  Could this REALLY be your beloved pet that has passed?  Of course it could!  We all have, more than likely, experienced the loss of a close member of the family....your pet.  If you are a pet owner, no matter what the pet....a dog, cat, bird or even snakes you develop a love for them that is unconditional.  On that bad day you had, they don't care.  The day you wrecked you car, you were still greeted with a long, wet lick in the face or when you are sobbing at that sad, sad last episode of Friends,  your "best friend" jumps in your lap and gives you THAT SWEET look of "it's going to ok".

So, what happens when we loose them?  We grieve and grieve.  This I know first hand, as I lost my little dog Holly very unexpectedly and everyday my I think about her.  I can barely look at a picture of her without breaking down.  But here's the deal.  I have seen her and I have felt her.  Do pets really have spirits that stay behind?  Some do.  Listen, sometimes when we see apparitions or ghosts it's because of a tragic event and the person doesn't know they are dead.  Or they have to make sure someone completes "their" journey.  And sometimes, it's just to help us with the grieving process.

Pets are different.  There is only one reason their spirit stays behind.  And that's YOU!  Our pets entire lives are built around us and being our companion.  Nothing makes a pet happier than pleasing their owner.  So, guess what?  When they die....that doesn't change. And let me tell, thanks goodness it doesn't!
Me and Holly

The night Holly died I had gone to the store and I came home and found her dead by the door and I have always thought, if I hadn't gone to the store that night maybe I could have saved her.  Was she by the door waiting for me to return?  The guilt was and is as real as anything I have ever felt.  Holly used to sleep with me so I had her buried right by my bedroom window so that she could still "sleep close" to me.  Anyway, after that sad story, I can tell you that I heard Holly many nights walking in the hall like she used to do and I would see her literally running through the house.  I think Holly knew how much pain I was in and wanted to make it better...yes, even from the other side.  And guess what? EVERY TIME I saw her or heard her I would smile.  So, if you think you have lost your "best friend" that always had nothing but unconditional love for you, you haven't.  The shadow in hall or the dog toy that suddenly shows up out of know-where....just might be your "best friend" paying you a visit.

Now, I wanted to include an article written by Stanley Coren Ph D., that I just read that has nothing to do with ghosts, or ghost spirits, but it does have to do with death and how when we have more than one pet that the other pet grieves as well.  That's right.  Your other pet.  The one that will stare into the kitchen looking at the dog bowl as if they are seeing something.  Maybe they are!  But lets not forget them in this process.  They grieve as well.  And you know, as much as your pet loved you...they loved your other pet to.  So, it is no surprise that they would come back to say "hi" to them as well.  The article below talks about your pets grief.  I thought it was really good and just wanted to include it with this blog.

So, I guess what I am trying to say is...your beloved pet may still be around. So have some treats handy...

Do Dogs Grieve Over the Loss of an Animal Companion?

A poignant study confirms what many owners suspected about pets and grieving.

It's well-known that dogs form strong emotional bonds with members of their human family, and often suffer grief when a loved one dies or moves away. However, one might wonder if dogs suffer an equal sense of loss when an animal companion who has lived with them in the same home suddenly disappears.

I recently visited the home of some friends who have always had Boston Terriers as their companion dogs, usually in pairs, and always in the traditional black and white coloration. Quite often, they also had a cat as a pet, which was usually black-and-white to match the dogs. I always felt that it was Violet's work as an interior decorator that compelled her to have color-coordinated pets. On this visit, I found only one dog in the house. Lou explained that in the course of a few months they had lost one of their Boston Terriers (Lily) and shortly thereafter their cat (Rosie). Lou went on to say, "Now we only have Daisy. She took the loss of Lily and Rosie pretty hard, so we are looking to get a puppy companion for her as soon as possible."
I sat down on the sofa where Violet was sitting with Daisy. She said:
"Daisy was really upset when Lily passed. She kept checking the places where Lily usually took her naps, and when she didn't find her she would whine or whimper. She also got really clingy and demanded a lot of affection from me. Things got better after a month or so but then Rosie, our cat, died. I was surprised to find that Daisy showed the same kinds of behaviors when she couldn't find Rosie. Daisy kept looking for her in her usual spots, began whimpering again, and seemed to want to be close to me. She even stopped eating as enthusiastically as she usually did, as though she had lost part of her appetite."
Although Daisy's behavior at the loss of her canine companion was familiar to me, I was a bit surprised to learn she showed signs of grief at the loss of the cat as well. However, a recent study published in the journal Animals attempts to catalog the behaviors of dogs and cats when they suffer the loss of an animal housemate, and what the study found suggests that Daisy's behavior is not atypical. The study was conducted by a team of researchers headed by Jessica Walker of the New Zealand Companion Animal Counsel who collected data pertaining to 159 dogs and 152 cats. The data consisted of questionnaire responses from pet owners in New Zealand and Australia who owned multiple pets at the same time and had lost one within the past five years. The pet owners were asked to recall how the surviving pet responded to the disappearance of their companion.

One of the most common behaviors observed in dogs was to continually check the places where their lost housemate normally napped or rested. This behavior was found in 60 percent of the dogs (regardless of whether the lost companion was a dog or a cat) and 63 percent of the cats. Virtually the same proportion of surviving pets demanded more affection or became clingy and needy (61 percent of dogs and 62 percent of cats). Increases in whining and whimpering was less frequent, occurring 27 percent of the time in dogs. However, increased vocalizing was much more common in cats (43 percent). Roughly one in three dogs and cats reduced the amount of food they ate and the speed in which they ate it (35 percent in dogs and 31 percent in cats). Dogs were more likely to increase the amount of time that they spent sleeping (34 percent), which was less likely in cats (20 percent). The interesting thing is that these are all behaviors one might observe in a young human child experiencing grief and stress because of the loss of a human family member.

Two aspects of this data surprised me. The first is that the cats seem to show grief-like behaviors to the same extent as the dogs. The second is that the dogs seem to show an equal amount of grief-related behavioral changes when the animal companion they lost was a cat rather than another dog.
One particularly interesting finding is that some animal behaviorists believe that the grief response in dogs can be reduced if the animal has a chance to view their deceased companion's body. The idea is that this provides closure: The dog will understand that their companion is no longer alive and is not coming back. In the study, 58 percent of the dogs and 42 percent of the cats got to view the body of their companion. The majority (73 percent) took the time to sniff and investigate their deceased housemate. However, no one reported behavioral differences between the animals that saw, and those that did not see, a dead companion's body. This seems to confirm that dogs act very much like human children younger than four, in that they do not have a concept of death as a final and irrevocable separation. Instead, they simply feel the loss of the presence, friendship, and companionship of their loved one; that loss causes their stress and grief-like behaviors.

The conclusion to draw from this study is that dogs and cats suffer from stress when a companion animal from their household dies. Because of this, they show behaviors which can be interpreted as grief. Further, a dog is just as likely to grieve over the loss of the household cat as it is for the loss of a companion dog.

CAN A SPIRIT FOLLOW YOU HOME- RE-POST

Hi everyone....so here's the question.....Can ghosts follow you home?  I could "dance around" the answer... but let me be blunt.  The answer is YES.  It is not common, but it CAN happen.  Now, with that being said lets talk about it.

There are reports of individuals having a particular ghost or spirit follow them home.  Some ghosts and spirits can attach themselves to objects, individuals, and or families.  Some people have reported taking something from a site that is said to be haunted....lets say something as simple as a stone from a building and suddenly finding that they have "bad luck" or unusual "things" just start happening.  Coincidence?  Maybe or maybe not.  Some people report purchasing an antique that has a ghost attached to it and it follows them home.  A ghost is not bound to a certain location, only drawn there because it was of significance to them when they were living.

I believe that sometimes ghosts or spirits will attach themselves to a person or family because they have been angered in some way..... but I also believe that sometimes a ghost or spirit may follow you home because they like you.  Sounds crazy? Well, think about it.  Do you want to be around people that are nice to you?  I think it is the same for spirits.  Lets say you have a location that is said to be haunted by a little girl.  Parents died tragically and she was left all alone and eventually dies herself.  You may have "people" that want to come investigate for the sheer purpose of making fun of ghosts or spirits.....then you have someone "like you and I, the GOOD ghost hunters" (LOL) that truly care about what happened to the souls.  So, what do we do....we talk as if we were talking to a child (no tauting) and we offer candy or we bring toys with us for the spirit to play with.  This little lost soul  has been lonely for so long and now someone wants to talk to her and play, she doesn't want you to leave.  So, she "attaches" herself and follows you home where she can be with you.  So, there you go....instant daughter! LOL  Also, beware of buying "used" objects as the same principle may apply.  Except, they may love the OBJECT and NOT you.

I get asked all the time, has you ever experienced someone or something following you home?  The answer is YES!!!!  Do I think it was a malevolent spirit?  No.  The things I was experienced did not make me feel threatened but more like....HEY PAY ATTENTION TO ME......I'M HERE!!!  I give ghost tours down at a haunted bridge (Goatmans Bridge, Denton, Tx) and I communicate with a young 14 year old girl named Rebecca that died back in the mid 1800's.  First, we have the same name so I think she relates to that.  Second, I speak to her very respectful and tell her how happy I am to talk with her every time.

What was I experiencing?  Well, for starters, EVERY SINGLE NIGHT FOR TWO WEEKS SOILD my tv would come on at 3am and the volume would be full blast and it would be all "staticy"!!!  And anyone that is connected to cable knows when your cable goes out there is nothing on the tv but a blue screen.  Every night I would get up and turn it off.  At first, I thought it was something going wrong with the tv or the cable.  I called and ask everyone what would cause that and everyone would tell me the same thing....It should NOT be doing that if it was going out.   Finally, I unplugged the tv thinking that would do the trick.....NOPE.....still came on by itself full blast!!!  Finally, one night when I couldn't take it anymore....I STOOD MY GROUND.....I turned it off after coming on at 3am and said out loud "OK.  I know you are here.  But this is MY house and I'm not moving.  So here is the deal.....You can stay BUT I don't want you to turn the tv on again.  And if you do, I will just get up and turn it off every time!  So we can live here together but you can not turn on the tv."  I swear....it has NEVER done it again.

Not only that...but the water in both the bathrooms would come on full blast by themselves, things would move from one place to another by themselves, alarms and other things would go off that shouldn't be going off and that had no batteries in them.  I really think it was Rebecca.  So I smudged the house and ask her to go back to the bridge and wait for me there.  And the activity stopped.

Now, this doesn't mean ghosts are just waiting to hitch-a-ride home with you, so don't start to worry yet.  But sometimes, you may "invite" them in by accident....say by using a Ouija Board.  You may be trying to contact  your departed loved one but that may NOT be who comes through.  If SOMEONE else decidesd it likes, or can manipulate you , it may just stay.....and LETS BE CLEAR...the spirit that decides it wants to stay from a Ouija Board may not be very nice at all.  So, this is nothing to play around with, so if you ARE going to use a Ouija Board be sure and take measures to protect yourself.  And just for the record, I NEVER AND WILL NEVER USE A OUIJA BOARD!!!
This is an old cemetery in Walnut Bend, Tx
An abandon cemetery with almost all children.
Look at the difference between the first and second
picture.  The second one is when we started talking
to the children and asking them if they want to play?

This was many years back, I took a group
of girls for a birthday party.  At first, they
were scared to death!!!  But then they
relaxed and I think the "children" really liked it.
Looks like "the children" didn't want
the girls to go!
Lets talk about how to protect yourself from a spirit (good or bad) from attaching itself to you and following you home. Before and after you enter a location that you feel is haunted, say a prayer telling the spirits they are not allowed, or welcome to follow any of you home.  This is a command!   I take this very seriously, as we all have families, and friends that do not want a ghost to follow them home.  I believe you will start to see this more and more on all the TV Paranormal shows.  This protection prayer.

The metaphysical dangers of an investigation are real and should be taken seriously.  If it were only the physical and emotional thing to worry about, then this field of study could be done by almost anyone....but that's not the case.  Sometimes things we are looking for are there, and more often than not these things can and do follow us home at the end of the night.  This is where the dangers come in.

I believe it is my duty to tell you while ghost hunting can be very exciting, scary, and mind blowing, there are dangers.  Yes, anyone can grab a recorder, ask a question and get a response.  And yes, if you do not know how to protect yourself, anyone can have their lives turned upside down by unseen forces. I cannot express enough how important it is, if you want to become an investigator or you want to get involved in the paranormal, that you go with a team that has years of experience and is fully aware of the dangers out there and how to conduct themselves professionally and, most of all, safely.

So, is it possible for a ghost to follow you home? Yes.  But it is rare.  Do I want you to stop investigating because of the chance that someone or something will follow me home...NO.  Just take precautions and you should be fine.

Now, enough with all the serious stuff.  For myself, personally, ghost hunting is one of the most rewarding and fun things I do.  I love it with all my heart and will continue to research and look for answers in the field of paranormal. I look at it like a "sport" kinda........playing professional football lets say..... you have to watch out for the big, bad, muscle guy that is going to nail you on the field possibility breaking your bones.  Well, when you ghost hunt you have to watch out for the "dead people"......the ones that like to play tricks on you or the ones that really want to cause harm.  Oh well....I'm still "IN"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have a great week everyone and of course, I would love your feedback.  And if you have had an experience with a spirit following you home, I would love to hear your story and if you willing possibly have you on my radio show Bridging the Paranormal to discuss your experience.  Feel free to email me at becksghosthunters@yahoo.com.

Have a great week everyone!

ONE OF THE MOST HAUNTED HOUSES IN THE WORLD-THE WINCHESTER HOUSE-YEP I'VE BEEN THERE!!!! WHAT DID I ENCOUNTER???

We've all heard the stories of Sarah Winchester.  The wife of the William Winchester, the man who made the Winchester Riffle.  When her husband died, Sarah believed that she was cursed because of the inheritance from the riffle and what I had always heard about Sarah was that she built this amazing house (or had workers doing construction 24/7) because a physic told her to.  This would keep the spirits confused and they could never find her.

Now, in the movie, there is a bit of difference.  SPOILER ALERT- In the movie, they say that Sarah had workers working 24/7.  And Sarah would have every death record of people that was killed with a Winchester Riffle sent to her and she would design and re-build the room they were shot in.  Then she would have the workers build the room then nail it up with 13 nails to keep the spirits in.  And all the crazy things about the house, windows that open to nowhere, stairs leading to nowhere and all kinds of other crazy things, Sarah would have visions of them first.  In the movie they also made it out to be Sarah was having violent episodes with these spirits attaching her and her family.

No doubt, if you are interested in the paranormal, the Winchester House should be on your bucket list!!!!  For sure.....it was on mine!!!!  A couple years ago, for my birthday my boyfriend and I went up to see this "unbelievable" place!  Ok...I am going to keep it real with you guys....you expect.... or I did anyway.... to drive out away from the city to see the house.  Well....it is surrounded with concert parking lots and businesses.  So, for me.....I was just a little disappointed about that.

It is VERY COMMERCIALIZED!!!  There is a huge gift shop right when you pull in the parking lot and you have to go through it to get to the house.  Now, I TOTALLY understand that....but if they want to build on the "mystery" of the house.... I think they should have put the gift shop at the back not to take away from this amazing place.

Ok...with that said......the house is beyond BEAUTIFUL on the outside and the landscaping is gorgeous!!!  There are all these little single building that held the carriages, food, water and all kinds of other things.  In some ways, the Winchester House it's own little town.

Now, for whatever reason.....I would have to really LOVED to have met Sarah Winchester.  I think she was a woman that believed what she believed....and didn't really care what other people thought.  You know....kinda like me.  I'm a ghost hunter and that's that! :)

Now, let's talk about the house.  I REALLY don't want to be negative about this place because if you get a chance to go YOU SHOULD.  This is my opinion and my opinion only :)  I was disappointed to learn that even though the house has some finishing none of them are original.  The original pieces were auctioned off after Sarah's death and they were never "tagged" so even knowing where they might be today is impossible.

In the video's I have attached, it shows people taking pictures and video.  Now, a couple years ago when I was there, we weren't allowed to do that.  Which again, disappointing.  I hate it when you go to an amazing location and they won't let you take pictures...right???   That might have changed with the movie coming out.  Anyway, the one thing I will say is......being INSIDE and seeing for yourself all the crazy halls, stairs, windows and just knowing that someone actually lived there like Sarah is very surreal!!!  So getting to have a true paranormal experience...well I will have to say I had none.

There may not be any of her belongings left, but her PRESENCE is still very much alive.  They do have a lot of old pictures on the walls and I thought that was really neat.  So, please don't take this post as a negative thing, I LOVED THIS PLACE...just telling you my experience.  Now, if I could go back and be able to do a quick EVP session and take pictures and video I would definitely do it.

By the way.........I spent a TON OF MONEY IN THE GIFT SHOP!!!!!!!!  LOL  Totally got caught up in just BEING at the world famous Winchester Mansion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sarah Lockwood Winchester (née Pardee; c. 1840 – September 5, 1922) was an American heiress who amassed great wealth after the death of her husband, William Wirt Winchester. Her inheritance from his estate included USD$20 million (equivalent to $507,172,414 in 2017) as well as a 50% holding in the Winchester Repeating Arms Company, which made her one of the wealthiest women in the world at the time. She is best known for using her vast fortune to continue construction on the Winchester mansion in San Jose, California, for 38 consecutive years. Popular legends, which began during her lifetime, held that she was convinced she was cursed, and the only way to alleviate it was to add on to her California home. Since her death, the sprawling Winchester Mystery House has become a popular tourist attraction, known for its staircases that lead to nowhere and its many winding corridors.

SIGNS THAT YOU MAY HAVE A DEMONIC ENTITY IN YOUR HOME

Now, there are lots of different reasons you could have bad things start to happen to you in your home or to people around you. Let's try and rule out what really may be cause for a greater concern.

Generally, before repression, oppression, and/or possession occurs, a demonic entity will infest a location.  There are specific signs of a demonic infestation or haunting, and many of them mimic an intelligent haunting of a spirit that was once in human form.  This is why it's sometimes so difficult, even for seasoned paranormal investigators, to distinguish between a ghost or spirit and a demon.

First, there are CHANGES IN YOUR HOME.  This is one of the signs of a traditional or intelligent haunting that could also be a demonic haunting.  A person might have electrical or battery-operated appliances or gadget that begin to operate on their own.  For example, the lights may turn on and off, the TV blares it when was turned off, blender or maybe even the water comes on by itself.

All of the sudden, you may see a plate or a dish fly across the room with no explanation.  This can be extremely frightening!  You may also notice things aren't in the same place you left them.  Doors open and close on their own.

You may experience all of these things.  If you are trying to figure out what is going on.....it is VERY important to start writing them down.  Journal all the activity.  It will help if you have to call in help.

Next, NOISES.  Strange sounds, like dragging, banging, raps or things falling and breaking but when you go to check their is nothing out of place.

You may even hear your name being called out, but BE CAREFUL here!!!  Demons will often mimic a deceased loved one in order to gain your trust and be more accepting of its presence.  But it is also, important to look at all the paranormal activity in the location as well as how the behavior of the living people in the home may have changed since the activity started.

SMELLS.  That's right! Smells.  Smells play a huge part in hauntings  and demonic infestation.  Although you may smells that you recognize like cigar or cigarette smoke, perfume, in a demonic presence, you will smell things you haven't smelt before and they are usually NOT pleasant.  A smell like sulfur or "something rotting" may be noticed.

CHANGES IN THE AIR.  You know....the air seems "heavy" or "oppressive".  It just seems harder to breath...like something heavy is on your chest.  If you start to feel this way, usually leaving the location should help.

EMOTIONAL CHANGES.  People who have come into direct contact with a demon called the experience changes in their moods and emotions.  Demons feed off negative energy, so the changes in someones moods that is normally a "happy" person could be something more than "just having a bad day".  But let me say....that when someone is in a "bad mood" I think it would be BEST NOT TO SAY....your just possessed by a demon!!!!!  LOL  Now, you could REALLY stir things up.

PHYSICAL COMPLICATIONS.  A person who resides in a home where a demonic entity is present could experience a wide variety of physical symptoms or illnesses that cannot be linked to a specific ailment.  But please always, consult your dr. if you are not feeling well.

Sometimes, people may experience bruises, headaches, vomiting and other types of physiological conditions for which the medical profession is not able to find  a logical explanation.  Sleep issues, such as nightmares maybe a way for the demon to wear a person down physically and emotionally to make their victim more vulnerable to their influence and make their prey easier to control.

PHYSICAL HARM.  Demonic entities can be very violent in nature and won't hesitate to attack.  Besides the scratching and bruising that can take place, victims of a demon have reported having their hair pulled, or having been pushed or pulled to the point that they have fallen and become injured, sometimes seriously, specially if a flight of stairs is involved.

CHANGES IN ANIMAL BEHAVIOR.  One of the main signs of a demonic entity is when your pets, especially a cat or a dog, start to display behavior that is erratic or uncharacteristic.  Now, don't confuse this with a "visit from a loved one" that your pets may see that you don't.  They may wage their tails or bark at an empty space, but with a demons presence it is more like growling, backing up, not wagging their tag, and even refusing to enter a particular room.

BECOMING WITHDRAWN.  Generally a demon will target one person in the home as their victim.  This person may start to withdraw and lose interest in activities.  They will become withdrawn from social events and even school or work.

Withdrawing from family and friends is exactly what the demon wants them to do.  That way, the demon can isolate their victim to gain control over them.

If you suspect you or one of your family members are experiencing a demonic infestation, you should seek help from a paranormal professional or a member of clergy who has experience dealing with demonic entities.

I want to suggest a REALLY GREAT book that goes into more detail about encountering negative spirits, it's called Something Wicked-A Ghost Hunters Explores  Negative Spirits. By Debi Chestnut.
It is really easy to read and understand.

OPRAH'S DONE IT ALL!!! EVEN HAVING HARPO STUDIOS IN A HAUNTED BUILDING WHERE HUNDREDS OF DIED BODIES ONCE LAID

She has it all!!!  Including ghosts!!!  That's right...Oprah's Winfrey doesn't talk about it much these days but when she had her show, she and her staff experienced MANY paranormal events.

Here's the story...
On July 24th, 1915, Chicago-based company, Western Electric Company, chartered four ships to take employees and their families to the annual company picnic in Michigan City, Indiana. The ships, including the rusting steamship The Eastland, were docked along the Chicago River as employees and their families boarded for a day of fun on the company's dime. At the time, Western Electric employed more than 10,000 people.
The Eastland was docked by the Clark Street bridge and had a history of balance problems. On more than once occasion since its christening in 1903, it nearly capsized on Lake Michigan. And when new rules and regulations were implemented in the wake of the Titanic's sinking in 1912, rows of life boats and preservers on the upper deck made the Eastland even more top-heavy. Unbeknownst to the passengers, the crew had emptied the ballast compartments which are designed to keep the ship stable to help accommodate more than the 2,500 capacity--the reason why is still a mystery.
It is documented that more than 3,200 people boarded that July morning--breaking capacity--and when the Eastland pushed off from the dock, it immediately started to list due to the uneven weight of the passengers on board. Many were on the already top-heavy upper deck so they could view the city as they pulled out of port. When the vessel listed, water quickly rushed in through windows and doors creating mass chaos on board. In seconds, The Eastland was on its side with hundreds trapped with no way out.
Individuals were pulled to safety through portholes as mothers screamed for their children. By-passers jumped into the river to help pull passengers to the shore. At the time, women wore long dresses, so many were pulled underwater from the sheer weight of their clothes. Others were trapped inside the cabin with no means of escape. Those who had been able to break away from the confines of the ship were met with the challenges of fighting for air as they were forced below the waterline and continually pushed down by the people above them. The horrific site was described as a "moving sea of bodies."
In less than fifteen minutes, The Eastland came to rest on its port side in no more than 20 feet of water, entombing hundreds of people inside.
Keep reading after the jump to learn about the rescue efforts and how this tragedy on the river haunts Harpo Studios...
Image result for western electric company distaster
Rescuers immediately began looking for survivors in the water and worked well into the night recovering the deceased. The sheer volume of bodies was more than the city could handle and thieves began rummaging through the pockets of the dead. Local stores loaned their wagons to help cart bodies away from the scene; so rescuers transported the corpses to one of the only places in the city equipped to handle the aftermath of that magnitude--the 2nd Regiment Armory on West Washington Avenue.

There, a makeshift morgue was set up with countless blocks of ice where they laid the fallen until they could be identified by family members.
In the 1980's, the 2nd Regiment Armory facilities were renovated and reopened as Harpo Studios. Since the production studio opened, Oprah and team have been haunted by the restless spirits of those who perished on that fateful day. Workers claim to have seen an affable shadowy figure, aka "The Grey Lady" presumed to be one of the mothers who lost her life on the Chicago River--and it has been reported that she has even been caught on the security cameras. There have also been confirmations of doors slamming without reason, phantom old-time music, unexplained footsteps and disembodies voices like children laughing, people sobbing and screaming for help.
But that's not all...
Today, a memorial plaque marks the spot of The Eastland tragedy on Chicago River between Clark and LaSalle Streets. And to this day, claims have been made of hearing moans and blood curling screams from the Clark Street bridge. Is it the helpless cries of the spirits still trying to escape the Eastland? That's for you to decide.
In the end, The Eastland disaster took 844 lives, including more than 20 entire families. What you may not realize, is that the tragedy claimed three times the lives than the historic Chicago Fire, making it one of our country's worst maritime accidents on record...and one of the least talked about.

Here Oprah's encounter with a GHOST of her own.

Heart breaking photos of this tragic event:
