About Me

My photo
Behind Every Cloud is a Kindred Spirit (BECKS)I lost my grandfather when I was 17. I had a VERY difficult time getting over it. How could I still communicate with him? I loved him so much I didn't think I could live without him. I read everything I could get my hands on to do with the "afterlife" and that started it all...the love of Ghost Hunting and the Paranormal. I have been researching the paranormal for over 37 years!! It is my way of staying in touch with my grandfather. Being a Ghost Hunter is not always as exciting as it seems on TV. Many nights I have sat in the dark and not a thing happened. BUT it is those times you DO get that one voice, that one explainable picture or have an experience that sends chills down your back that makes it sooo worth it all!!! My purpose of this blog is not to make people believe in ghosts but maybe to open their minds just a little bit... I LOVE this crazy thing called Ghost Hunting. It is as much a part of me as breathing. I am just a girl that refuses to accept we can't still contact our loved ones after they die. My grandfather won't let me.

GHOST HUNTING IN CEMETERIES - GREAT PLACE OR NOT???

Going to a cemetery?  Count me IN!!!!  A bunch of dead people and caskets!  YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!
Man, I do love me some haunted cemeteries!!!  Many people will argue that a cemetery IS NOT a great place to go ghost hunting.  That the spirit of the body buried in the ground is more than likely at a location if there is to be a haunting.  I beg to differ.

Some of the best EVP's and photos I have ever gotten have been in a cemetery.  You've heard of attachments?  Spirits that attach themselves to an object like a favorite chair or toy, right?  Then why would they not want to attach to the one thing that truly represents them?  There outer shell....the physical body.

Many times when you investigate a location you one of the things you look for is places with "Great emotion". Well...….hello......what a better place than a cemetery to have a ton of true emotions!  Think about it.  Some people are sad, because their loved one is gone, some maybe happy because  their loved ones are in a "better place", some maybe confused because they don't fully understand the loss of their loved ones and some maybe angry, angry that they are left alone.  All that emotion in one place...You betcha ya I'm in!!!!

It's like a party for the dead!  I have actually gotten EVP's in a cemetery that sounded like two spirits interacting with each other.  And if you have captured that then you know it is soooo exciting an amazing to witness.  Another time, up in Alton, Illinois some friends of mine and I went to check out one of the local cemeteries.  We started seeing dark shadows dart from tombstone to another.  We were all seeing them!  We started walking through the cemetery and one of guys stepped on a grave (which we always try and walk around instead over just walking over the graves) and just a natural response said, "Oh, I'm so sorry about that" and we all heard at the same time a soft woman's voice say, "That's ok".  Even better, we caught it on our recorder as plain as day!  A class A EVP!!!

Many times if you just sit still and look around you will be able to see the dark shadows.  The shadows are darker than the dark.  And if you are lucky enough, you may even be able to capture one in one of your pictures.  If you do go to a cemetery, this is a great place for trigger objects.  Bring a toy to a child's grave or choose a coin with and older date that matches someones death year.

Here is one of my favorite videos that we captured a ball rolling of the edge of a wall that surrounded an old grave.

                                                        The Skinner Cemetery

Also, here are a couple of my video's of EVP's and paranormal evidence we have received at cemeteries.

                                                  The Channing Park Cemetery

                                                            Lane Cemetery

I definitely think a cemetery is an awesome place for ghost hunting.   But please be respectful when you do investigate.

THE HAUNTED CONGRESS HOTEL IN CHICAGO-SEE WHAT I FOUND!-REPOST

If you have not stayed at the Congress Hotel in Chicago....you should!!!  It is reportedly the most haunted hotel in the city.  I was lucky enough to get a room at this hotel to do an investigation as a Christmas Present from my boyfriend and I loved every minute of it!!!  I was also lucky enough to have one of my FAVORITE paranormal groups White Dog Paranormal to meet me there.  We had a great time!

Ok....I know, you guys don't care about all that....you just want to know if we saw any GHOSTS!!!
First here is a little bit about this wonderful place.  It was built to help house visitors of the World Fair in 1893.  It was also owned at one point by the one and only Al Capone.  Supposedly the most haunted floors are the 4th and the 12th(I stayed on the 12th).  Some of the spirits roaming this place is none other than Al himself along with a mother and two sons, whom supposedly was waiting for the arrival of her husband and when she found out he wasn't coming, she through her two boys over the 12th floor balcony and then jumped herself.  Then there's Peg Leg Johnny, a hobo that was murdered in the hotel.  And the MOST HAUNTED ROOM OF ALL #441.  YES, I did request to stay in that room but was told the whole 4th floor was closed!  Of course, we had to go check it out ourselves and found that the 4th floor was completely dark!  Did we leave......of course not!!!  We just sat down in the floor, in the dark and started conducting an EVP Session.
The very top of the creepy stairwell

When you start asking questions about the spirits that haunt the hotel you will find out quickly that some of the people DON'T want to talk about it, but a couple of the bell hops were willing to share their stories.  We were lucky enough to meet Johnny the late night security guard who has worked at the Congress for about 18 years.  At first, he wasn't willing to talk, but he couldn't resist my Texas accent!!! LOL  He eventually warmed up to us and took us on a tour all around the hotel and to places we normally wouldn't have access to.  THANK YOU JOHNNY!!!!  He told us story after story of paranormal activity.  Even as recent as the week before we were there, of people leaving their rooms claiming things were moving, they were touched, etc.
After we left Johnny, we investigated on our own.  Yep...you guessed it, we went places not many people could or WOULD not go.  We had a lot of activity in a little stairwell we found behind an unmarked door.  Be sure and watch the video I am posting of that session.   You DON'T want to miss it!!!

WHAT'S IN YOUR BACKYARD???

Looking for Ghost Hunting locations?  Sometimes we are wanting to do something so badly that we OVERLOOK what's in your own backyard.  And ghost hunting is no different.  I have traveled all over world in search of some of the most haunted places, and come to find out one of the most haunted places I have ever been is right "in my own backyard"......Goatman's Bridge.
This past Saturday I went to support my good friend Tui Snider who was speaking at the Dallas Public Library.  Tui is an amazing author with several #1 Books on Amazon.  She was talking about her new book 100 Things To Do In Dallas Fort Worth Before You Die Tui Snider  which I might add is a #1 New Release on Amazon.  In her book she names several places for you to visit around the Dallas, Fort Worth area, and some of which are haunted!  She also tells you about other things like restaurants, museums, shopping, history and sport hot spots.  Listening to Tui got me to thinking....everyone needs to take a close look around their area, it just might surprise them with what they find!  And before I forget, I want to give a shout-out to Donna and Denise who was at Tui's lecture who had came on one of our Overnight Special Events at Goatman's Bridge.  It was great to you guys again.  Have fun on the Queen Mary!  Sorry, got off track. LOL

For instance, Tui named several places around Dallas, Fort Worth that are haunted and I have not heard of them!  Places like The DeGolyer Mansion at the Dallas Arboretum and The Lizard Lounge.  You can bet I will be checking those out!!!
Me and Tui

Tui Snider
One of the fun things we got to do after Tui's lecture was go to the VERY HAUNTED  The Sons of Hermann Hall.  I had been wanting to check it out for a couple years now.  First, I just want to say that the two guys that showed us around were awesome!  They were soooo nice and told us we could just go wherever we liked.  I'm sorry, I didn't catch their names but I do know one was on The Board.  They told us about the eerie feelings they get late at night when closing up and that some people have seen a spirit of a lady.  Also, some well-dressed ghostly concertgoer's have been spotted.
Donna and Denise

Tui and Larry(Tui's husband)

Larry told us to put our best foot forward.  You can see we're not used to that. LOL

Wait! I have a "best foot"???

One of the guys that showed us around.

Now, The Sons of Hermann has a lot of local musicians come in and play as well as a night of dancing.  And not just any "dancing" it's SWING DANCING!!!  How fun is that???  This place did not feel negative in anyway to me, as a matter of fact, just the opposite.  It was a very relaxed, easy feeling, sounds weird but really....almost a "happy" feeling.  Which doesn't surprise me given how friendly the staff is and being so open to having the public come in and play music.  Heck, if I were a ghost I would want to hang out here!

Anyway, ghost hunting is awesome know matter where you are, but be sure not overlook what's right in front of you.  So, get out there and HUNT!!!!!

GHOST HUNTERS PHOTOBOMED BY A GHOST!!!!!

GHOSTLY FACE AT NEWSHAM HOSPITAL
This picture was taken at Newsham Park Hospital over the weekend. There is an extra guest on here that all who attended did not see during the event. Very strange but can you spot her?
Just to point out that this photo was taken by a team member and forwarded straight to us at HH. We have the exact same photos with no time to affect them in any way. Not that we would anyway. We don't know what it is any more than you or any photographic or image expert. If you know exactly what it is then show us how you know but please don't just accuse us of doctoring the photo as we have no interest whatsoever in doing so.

WE ARE ON A FIRST NAME BASES! WHEN YOU MAKE A SPECIAL CONNECTION WITH THE SPIRITS

Your in a dark corner of an abandon house, your team is all set up in different locations.  It is a stormy night so this just creates an extra "unnerving" feeling.  Everyone has all their equipment set up and in place....."LIGHTS OUT" someone yells.  Boom!!!! A clap of thunder rumbles and the walls seem to shake and all that you can now see are the holes in the roof and in the cracks in the walls as lightening lights up the sky outside.  Game on.....

I can't tell you how many nights I have been in this exact situation.  After many years of investigating I seem to have developed.......what I like to call a "special connection" with our friends and loved ones from the other side...... and even those we don't consider friends just lost souls that we connect with in one way or another.

I can't tell you how many times within the first few minutes of an EVP session when we turn on the Spirit Box  or the Ovilus that all of the sudden I hear my name come through....BECKY..... Now, I wish that I could set here and tell you the first couple times this happened I was BRAVE and it didn't scary me at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well.........I can remember it like it was yesterday.........(picture me sitting... looking up with my finger on the tip of my chin.....and one of those big white bubble things over my head. hhhuuummm It will help set the mood. LOL).........Now flashback......my back was turned against the Spirit Box and I was fidgeting with one of my cameras........as I was doing so...I was asking questions out loud and I asked "was there someone here you would like to talk to?"  Through the static of the Spirit Box but very PLAINLY and very LOUDLY I heard "BECKY"!!!!!!!!!!!!  I stopped IMMEDIATELY.....my mouth dropped wide open....and my eyes were as wide as saucers.....I turned around and said "DID THAT JUST SAY MY NAME???????" as I was pointing toward the Spirit Box.  My head was saying RUNNNNNN BECKY RUNNNNNN .....but my heart even though beating out of my chest, said stay.  I couldn't move.  And yep...you guessed it.......it repeated my name again........BECKY..... This time there was NO mistaking WHO they were wanting to talk to!  It didn't say "Yecky" it didn't say "tacky" it said "BECKY".  Oh crap....that's me!!!  They know my name!!! And that's the way it all began......MY "special connection" with communicating with the spirits when they call you out by your name.

Now, after several times of hearing your name you start to really get used to it.....it's more like "give me minute, I'm busy" instead of RUN FEET RUN!  LOL

By know means, am I saying that I am the ONLY one this happens to, of course I'm not, nor do I claim to be a medium...no nothing like that...just your normal ghost hunting girl.  I think that after a while, spirits learn or seem to...... in someway understand that you are there to communicate with them and in many cases to help.  They get used to your voice and realize that the lines of communication are now open for a little while at least.

So, if you are just starting out as an investigator, don't be surprised if over time, you start to hear your name over and over again.  And not by the same spirit, but different ones at all different locations. Here is my theory.  Whether it is right or wrong, this is my opinion.  It's kinda like......the ice cream truck.  EVERYONE hears that cutesy music from around the corner and everyone comes running.  You don't SEE the truck but you HEAR that cutesy music and you know automatically what that means.  The same way with someone that tries to communicate with the spirits a lot.  Even though you may not see them and they may not see you....The Spirits start to realize that your voice means a direct line of communication.......that your someone who will hear them...........see them........help them.

So, next time you hear your name being called out.....Be BRAVE my friend.....just like me! LOL

GUARDING AGAINST SKEPTICISM BY STEVE GONSALVES OF TAPS

I wanted to share an article by Steve Gonsalves of the TAPS Team or Ghost Hunters as most of us know him as.  I thought this was a really good article about skepticism that I think we all who are in this field get a "good dose" of very often from maybe others that just don't understand what we do or maybe they do and just want to give us a hard time....either way I think Steve's article was really good.

Guarding Against Skepticism – by Steve Gonsalves

You spend a lot of time doing the research, finding the evidence, and showing your evidence to the public. All this time spent just to hear someone say “That’s not real” or “That just looks like smoke”.
This person we all love is known as a skeptic.
The skeptic could be another research group, the media, or it could be your friend who you are showing your

latest research to.
Skeptic is such an evil word for some, but it doesn’t have to
be that way.
Not if you research, collect, and present your evidence properly. B
e your own skeptic, Don’t believe it until you see it.
Collecting your evidence could be the most important part of your research.
Most common evidence collected are photographs and videos.
We will focus mostly on photographs.
When taking pictures, We all know to make sure it’s not raining, no dust in the air, no camera straps, no smoking on the premises
and no breathing in cold weather.

I would like to go over a few things that can be very beneficial to your investigations.
The first thing you should know about is coupling.
Coupling is using other tools in conjunction with your photographs.
For instance, you could use an EMF gauge in conjunction with your photography.
Most people do this anyway, but a lot of researchers don’t and most new investigators
don’t know any better.
This way you could present your evidence as, “Everytime my EMF gauge spikes a reading that supports paranormal phenomena, I capture this smoke like mist on film”.
That is a much better way to present evidence then, “Look at the strange mist in these pictures”.
The EMF gauge offers a scientific backing for your evidence.
The same would work with thermal probes or any of the paranormal adapted technology we use.

Next, I’d like to talk about control pictures.
These are pictures of a non-paranormal nature on the same roll of film with pictures of a paranormal nature.
What this does is stops people from assuming it is something wrong with the whole roll of film. For example, say you are investigating a case where a woman knows where the activity is, and can tell it’s in the same
room as her.
You take a few pictures in the area she says it is, and also take a few pictures in the same area when she says it’s not there.
This way, when you present these pictures as evidence you can say, “When she said the ‘entity’ was present we took these pictures with the fog like mist.
When she said the ‘entity’ was gone, we took these control pictures we took came out clear of the fog like mist”.
So we have control pictures validating our paranormal pictures.
It can also be used as easily as taking pictures outside of the investigation location to use as control pictures.
So you can present them as, “In the location we have these pictures with the fog like mist, we took these control pictures outside of the investigation location and all of these pictures are free from the fog like mist”.
One other thing I want to address is the lingo we use when talking about our research, and more importantly presenting our evidence.
Try to stay away from words that may cast a negative shadow on our research.
Words such as “Ghostbuster”, “Ectoplasm” and “Psychic”.
Not that these things don’t exist, it’s just that these words and words like them reflect negatively on our
research.
Ectoplasm was a substance that used to exude from the mouths of early century mediums.
Come to find out it was just cheesecloth they would swallow and regurgitate at the climax of their session.
Also the Ghostbusters movie made Ectoplasm seem like a made up word.
Try to use phrases like mysterious fog, strange mist, or even Ectoplasm-like mist
instead of ectoplasm.
You’ll find that if you use words like Ectoplasm, Psychic and Ghostbuster, people will have a harder time taking you seriously.
Of course there is a lot more to making and keeping your reputation healthy, but using simple tips like these it will be a lot
easier to present your evidence to skeptics.

HAVE A LITTLE GHOSTLY FUN WITH THESE APPS!!!

So, if you are out and about doing your Christmas shopping or lurking around dark, creepy haunted houses (lol) why not try out these apps.  Here are just a few of the Ghost Apps that I have played with.  How much "stock" do I put in these apps.....not sure, but in today's world of technology I guess just about anything is possible.  So lets talk Ghost Apps for Iphones.

Dashboard
Main Screen
So first lets talk about the Ghost Hunter M2.  It is a little "dorky" because when you first turn it on (but you can turn it off in the settings), it plays cheesy thunder and lightening sounds...but oh well.  This seems to be so far anyway, one that has "some" merit to it.  It has definitely picked my interest at times.

Cost: .99 cents
How it works: When you first turn it on, you will get a screen that at the bottom has several different options to on this app.(hint: three appear on the main screen, but just tap on it and use your finger to scroll down several more options.

The very first "option" says Dashboard.  The Dashboard is a combination of all the different options you can use but in the Dashboard they ALL are up and running at once.  The top one(Sweep) will show different colored "dots" that supposedly indicate spirits that are around.  The second one shows the EVP's that you get.  Next, you have the EMF that shows the different readings around you of Electromagnetic Field.  Then, you have the Audio.  It can detect a very broad range of frequencies, some undetected by the human ear.  This is where you can record your words. and last is the Geo used to analyze the data presented by the system's electro-mechanical sensor array.  What does all that mean??? I don't really know....lol.

The very first day I downloaded it at work. I didn't really know how to use it.  But it looked fun and interesting.  I went home and was just sitting in the living room and decided to turn it on..  So, I turned it on and just put it on the chair and continued just to relax and watch tv.  Nothing was happening...the radar was going around and around but no "blimp" on it at all and no words where showing.  After about 30 mins all the sudden... the radar starts going off and there was a little blue light on the radar.  I thought...huummmm interesting....and then....(because it has sound) it said "Rebecca" and the word "Rebecca" shows up on the screen!!!  NO WAY!!!  Now...... I wish I could say that being a Ghost Hunter that I thought this was way cool....but the truth is...... I thought "What the ???????"  It scared the crap out of me! lol  I know, I know, I am suppose to lie and say it didn't but it DID!!!!

Now, I don't know if everyone knows this but Becky(my name) is short for Rebecca!!! Oh, NOW I have your attention....lol  I didn't really know what to do...so I did the bravest thing I could think of...........I TURNED IT OFF!!!!! How could it know my name??? It couldn't be retrieving names from your phones account because my cell phone is in Becky.  huuummm  But to me anyway, Rebecca is a pretty WEIRD word to through out there!  What do you think?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fqKppQrGsE

The next app I want to review is the Paranormal App. This is a fun little app but I'm not sure it's nothing more than an entertainment app.  All it does is when it detects spirits dots will show up on radar.  Then you will hear a beep and then this creepy writing starts to come and writes a word.   That is all this app does.  It does not save the words to a log so if you want to record the words you get, I screenshot them.  But you have to be quick, the words only stay visible for a few seconds.

Paranormal

And I'm sure you guys have all heard about the Ghost Radar.  It has two different apps the Ghost Radar Classic and the Ghost Radar Legacy.  They both do basically the same thing...radio that detects spirits and then gives you the EVP's and logs them.  I kinda like this little app.  Sometimes it seems to be relevant to the investigation and other times it just seems like random words.  But...it does log your words, which I like and it is easy to use.

Cost: $1.99

I would love to hear you guys opinion on ghost apps and what experiences you all have had.

Anyway, this is my two-cents for what it's worth. :)

Ghost Radar Legacy

The  log.

And the last app I want to talk about is one of the creepiest apps I have run across so far.  Now, I'm not saying that it is one I would put a lot of stock in either but this thing is darn CREEPY.  It is the Ghost Radio.  It is used like a "spirit box" where spirits can make words through white noise.  It does take a while before you start to get communication (so it says).  But you will see on the screen in red writing "entity detected" then you will hear either a man's voice or a woman's voice that is trying to say something by using phonics.  But let me tell you, it sounds scary!!! LOL

Now, it does record the words or EVP's for you, it DOES record audio in a log so that you can go back and replay it.

I would love to hear your experiences with ghost apps.  What's your favorite and which ones do you think might actually be useful in an investigation?

BLOOD DRIPPING FROM THE CEILING ONTO THE TABLE...THIS IS ONE THANKSGIVING STORY YOU WON'T SOON FORGET!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!! I wish each and everyone of you a very happy holiday and have more blessing than you can count!!!  Please know how THANKFUL I am for all of you that take the time to read my blog and take the time to write me and share your experiences. YOU GUYS ROCK!!!  I love you guys! And please, say a little prayer for Paris as I can only imagine how sad this Thanksgiving will be for them.

Now how about a scary story for Thanksgiving???  Well check out the one below.  It's a little long but worth the read. :)

This strange account was first published in the Brooklyn Eagle on December 5, 1891:

The little hamlet of Oakville, lying seven or eight miles east of Statesborough, Ga., on this Savannah River, is much agitated at present over a ghostly sensation which appears to be more substantial than is usual with such excitement, to use a paradoxical expression. About three weeks ago the family of a small farmer named Walsingham began to be annoyed by certain disturbances in their household matters, which they at first attributed to the malice or mischievous propensity of some outsider. These disturbances generally took the form of noises in the house after the family had retired and the light was extinguished. Continual banging of the doors, things overturned, the door bell rang and the annoying of the hound dog, a large and intelligent mastiff.
It was the conduct of this animal that first caused the Walsinghams to believe there was something more in these occurrences than appeared on the surface, though they were reluctant to attach any supernatural significance to them, being a family of education, practical persons and avowed skeptics on the subject of spooks, etc.

Don Caesar, the mastiff, would be seen to start suddenly from a nap and run at full tilt as if from some one, or start suddenly back while walking leisurely down a path, as if he again met with some one. But he soon lost his temper and varied these pacific proceedings by snarling at every door, as if he expected an enemy to enter, and often drawing back with a threatening bark and displaying fangs to warn his unseen annoyer from him. One day he was found in the hallway barking furiously and bristling with rage, while his eyes seemed directed to the wall just before him. At last he made a spring forward, with a hoarse yelp of ungovernable fury, only to fall back as if flung down by some powerful and cruel hand. Upon examination it was found that his neck had been broken.

The house cat, on the contrary, seemed rather to enjoy the favor of the ghost, and would often enter a door as if escorting some visitor in whose hand was stroking her back. She would also climb upon a chair rubbing herself and purring as if well pleased at the presence of some one in the seat. She and Don Caesar invariably manifested this eccentric conduct at the same time, as though the mysterious being was visible to both of them. This kept up until no doubt could be entertained that the animals saw something of a supernatural character, which was also making itself very disagreeable to the Walsinghams.

It did not long content itself with petty annoyances, but finally took to rousing the family at all hours of the night by making such a row as to render any rest impossible.

This noise, which consisted of shouts, groans, hideous laughter and a peculiar, most distressing wail, would sometimes proceed apparently from under the house, sometimes from the ceiling and at other times in the very room in which the family was seated. One night Miss Amelia Walsingham, a young daughter, was engaged at her toilet, when she felt a hand laid softly on her shoulder. Thinking it her mother or sister she glanced in the glass before her only to be thunderstruck at seeing the mirror reflect no form but her own, though she could plainly see a man’s broad hand lying on her arm.

She brought the family to her by her screams, but when they reached her all signs of the mysterious hand was gone. On another occasion the girl was startled by beholding the knob of her door turn softly, the door open and then close as if someone had entered and shut it behind them. She strained her eyes trying to make out some form or the cause of the phenomenon, but nothing appeared. She vacated the room, however, feeling sure nothing was in it with her. Mr. Walsingham himself saw footsteps form beside his own while walking through the garden after a light rain.

The marks were those of a man’s naked feet and fell beside his own as if the person walked at his side. After some minutes the steps left him and led toward the house, where Don Caesar was lying on the front piazza. The dog sprang up, barking furiously, but retreated as the steps approached him.

Matters grew so serious that the Walsinghams became frightened and talked of leaving the house when an event took place that confirmed them in this determination. The family was seated at the supper table with several guests, who were spending the evening, when a loud groan was heard in the room directly overhead. This was however, nothing unusual, and very little notice was taken of it until one of the visitors pointed out a stain of what looked like blood on the white tablecloth, and it was seen that some liquid was slowly dripping on the table from the ceiling overhead. This liquid was so much like fresh shed blood as to horrify those who watched its slow dripping. Mr. Walsingham, with several of his guests, ran hastily upstairs and into the room directly over the one into which the blood was dripping.

A carpet covered the floor and nothing appeared to explain the source of the ghastly rain, but, anxious to satisfy themselves thoroughly, the carpet was immediately ripped up and the boarding found to be perfectly dry and even covered with a thin layer of dust. And all the while the floor was being examined the persons below could swear the blood never ceased to drip. A stain the size of a dinner plate was formed before the drops ceased to fall. This stain was examined next day under the microscope and was pronounced by competent chemists to be human blood.

The Walsinghams left the house the next day and since then the place has been apparently given over to spooks and evil spirits, which make the night hideous with the noise of revel, shouts and furious yells. Hundreds from all over this county and adjacent ones have visited the place, but few have the courage to pass a night in the haunted house. One daring spirit, Horace Gunn of Savannah, however, accepted a wager that he could not spend twenty-four hours in it, and did so, though he declares that there is not enough money in the county to make him pass another night there. He was found the morning after by his friends with whom he made the wager in an insensible condition and was with difficulty brought out of his swoon. He has never recovered from the shock of his terrible experience and is still confined to his bed suffering from nervous prostration.

His story is that shortly after nightfall he endeavored to kindle a fire in one of the rooms and to light the lamp which he had provided himself, but to his surprise and consternation found it impossible to do either. An icy breath which seemed to proceed from some invisible person at his side extinguished each match as he lighted it. At this peculiarly terrifying turn of affairs Mr. Gunn would have left the house and forfeited the amount of his wager, a considerable one, but was restrained by the fear of ridicule and of his story not being believed in. He seated himself in the dark with the calmness he could and awaited developments.

For some time nothing occurred, and the young man was half dozing when, after an hour or two, he was brought to his feet by a sudden yell of pain or rage that seemed to come from under the house. this appeared to be the signal for an outbreak of hideous noises all over the house. The sound of running feet could be heard scurrying up and down the stairs, hastening from one room to another, as if one person fled from the pursuit of a second. This kept up for nearly an hour, but at last ceased altogether, and for some time Mr. Gunn sat in darkness and quiet and had about concluded that the performance was over for the night. At last his attention was attracted by a white spot that gradually appeared on the opposite wall from him.

This spot continued to brighten until it seemed a disk of white fire, when the horrified spectator saw that the light emanated from and surrounded a human head which, without a body or any visible means of support, was moving slowly along the wall at about the height of a man from the floor. This ghastly head appeared to be that of an aged person, though whether male or female it was difficult to determine. The hair was long and gray and matted together with dark clots of blood, which also issued from a deep, jagged wound in one temple. The cheeks were fallen in and the whole face indicated suffering and unspeakable misery. The eyes were wide open and gleamed with an unearthly fire, while the glassy balls seemed to follow the terror stricken Mr. Gunn, who was too thoroughly paralyzed by what he saw to move or cry out. Finally the head disappeared and the room was once more left in darkness, but the young man could hear what seemed to be half a dozen persons moving about him, while the whole house shook as if rocked by some violent earthquake.

The groaning and wailing that broke forth from every direction was something terrific, and an unearthly rattle and banging, as of china and tin pans being flung to the ground floor from the upper story, added to the deafening noise. Gunn at last roused himself sufficiently to attempt to leave the haunted house. Feeling his way along the wall, in order to avoid the beings, whatever they were, that filled the room, the young man had nearly succeeded in reaching the door when he felt himself seized by the ankle and was violently thrown to the floor. He was grasped by icy hands which sought to grip him about the throat. He struggled with his unseen foe, but was soon overpowered and choked into insensibility. When found by his friends his throat was black with the marks of long, thin fingers armed with cruel, curved nails.

The only explanation that can be found for these mysterious manifestations is that about three months ago a number of bones were discovered on the Walsingham place, which some declared even then to be those of a human being. Mr. Walsingham pronounced them, however, to be an animal’s, and they were hastily thrown into an adjacent limekiln. It is supposed to be the outraged spirit of the person to whom they had belonged in life that is now creating such consternation.
